Chapter 185: Mom

There is a spear, originally embedded in the stone pillar; it now emerges due to the pillar's collapse.

“This spear is the weapon that killed the Yayu. It counters its existence,” Xuanyuan Wentian explains.

All things have their counterparts, and this spear is the Yayu's nemesis. In this small world formed by the body of the ancient Yayu, amid the frenzy of surging blood tendrils, only this spear remains untainted and bright as ever. It is the only thing capable of killing the Yayu cub once again. Su Tingyun doesn’t have much time left.

The spear, untouched and undamaged after countless millennia since the ancient era, convinces Su Tingyun to believe Xuanyuan Wentian’s words this time.

She steps forward a few paces and easily lifts the spear into her hands. This indicates its former owner has long perished, leaving no trace behind. Without its owner’s imprint, the spear is an ownerless weapon, making it easy to wield. However, whether it can recognize a new master depends on whether spiritual energy can be injected into it.

At this moment, Su Tingyun’s spiritual energy is sealed, making it impossible for her to channel energy into the spear. She doesn’t know how much power an unclaimed spear can unleash, but she has no choice but to try.

Pointing the spear in a direction, she watches as the blood tendrils scatter, retreating to either side as if avoiding it at all costs. Seeing this, Su Tingyun feels slightly more at ease. She doesn’t dare waste any time and quickly moves to the Yayu cub. Strangely, nothing blocks her way.

She raises the spear high and thrusts it downward toward the Yayu’s head.

At that moment, the Yayu opens its eyes, and a single crystalline tear rolls down.

Surrounded by an endless sea of blood, the tear remains pure and crystal-clear, like morning dew, shimmering brilliantly and piercing through the scarlet gloom.

Suddenly, darkness engulfs everything, and the world is swept by a raging storm of sand and wind.

A massive, jet-black Yayu gallops through the air, its every step causing mountains to collapse and the ground to quake. Endless mountain ranges are leveled, rivers are filled with flying debris, and the legendary transformation of seas into mulberry fields happens in the blink of an eye with each thunderous landing of its four feet. Its divine might instills terror in all who behold it.

The Yayu runs for a long time as the sky gradually brightens. The rising sun chases away the darkness, leaving it far behind. At last, it comes to a halt, shrinking to the size of an ordinary tiger before slipping into a cave.

Only then does Su Tingyun notice its swollen belly, clearly revealing that it is pregnant.

The Yayu lies down on the ground and rolls over, transforming into the form of a woman. The only feature distinguishing her from a human is the pair of dragon horns on her head. She wears black robes, her features cold and sharp. Though her eyebrows are thin, they form a straight line, and her willow-leaf-shaped eyes, high nose bridge, slightly prominent cheekbones, thin lips, and pointed chin give her an austere appearance. Coupled with the chilly aura surrounding her, she exudes an unapproachable, cold-blooded demeanor—not captivating, but intimidating.

However, as she gently strokes her rounded belly, the frost around her seems to melt with the tenderness of her touch. Her gaze softens, and warmth blooms like spring flowers.

“They won’t let me go,” she says with a faint laugh, “but I will protect you.”

“You will survive.”

After speaking, she looks around and notices a stalk of spiritual grass within the cave. She uproots it and swallows it whole. As she does, Su Tingyun observes a miniature world inside her body, filled with rare treasures, countless spiritual beasts, and an ecosystem that seems like an entirely separate realm.

The grass is not chewed or digested; instead, she casually replants it within her inner world. Inside, what hangs in the sky is not a sun, but a suspended celestial artifact—the Sun-Moon Wheel—and it illuminates the sky. The outline of the artifact is clear, and as it is ‘day’ inside, it resembles a sunflower. Long ago, when she was a divine beast, this Sun-Moon Wheel hung around her neck, a gift from her master. Even after becoming a demonic beast, no longer her master’s companion, the artifact remained with her.

Gazing at the Sun-Moon Wheel in the sky, her expression turns icy. She channels her spiritual energy, and her bloodline pours a steady stream of power into the miniature world. After completing this, her body grows visibly weaker.

Leaning against a rock, she rests for a moment before carefully retrieving a mirror and lightly stroking its surface.

“If not for this mirror being crafted from my protective heart scales, I wouldn’t have been able to steal it. With this Bodhi Mirror of Reality, nothing can go wrong. It’s just a pity... I won’t be able to see you live.”

With that, she smears her blood across the mirror, coating it entirely. She then swallows it into her miniature world. Instead of discarding it carelessly, she hides it within the body of a fox. Layer upon layer of restrictions weakens her former master’s control over the mirror.

“You will live well.”

The Yayu’s hands are covered in blood. As she caresses her swollen belly, the blood stains her abdomen. At that moment, her stomach subtly bulges, as though the life within her is responding to her tenderness.

"Child, don't be afraid," she says, her eyes gleaming with a cold light, her smile as frigid as frost.

What follows is a fierce battle. To protect her child, the Yayu unleashes a torrent of demonic energy, her ferocity unmatched. The power she emits is overwhelming. Her opponent, a divine being armed with a spear—once the Yayu’s master—must have already suffered heavy injuries in the war of gods and demons, failing to gain the upper hand. The two combatants are evenly matched.

The void shatters, and the world plunges into darkness. Their battle rages for over a month, leaving both utterly exhausted. On this ancient battlefield, where gods and demons clash endlessly, neither side receives aid.

In the end, the divine spear pierces the Yayu’s abdomen, killing her and the child she carries. Her opponent, drained of energy and gravely wounded, succumbs as well, their divine soul gradually dissipating.

The unborn child, once a pure and innocent divine beast, never opens its eyes. It perishes alongside its mother…

…the spear’s tip striking directly upon its small, unopened eyes.

In her final moments, the Yayu activates the intricate seals and prohibitions she meticulously prepared. Before her soul fully fades, she seals her body to preserve everything necessary for her child’s second life. Now, only time remains.

As countless years pass, her child will inevitably awaken.

But she will not live to see that day.

An overwhelming sorrow floods Su Tingyun’s mind, pressing down on her like a mountain. The infant Yayu, its body split open, opens its wet, tear-filled eyes for the first time. Hot tears flow ceaselessly from its gaze.

Submerged in the blood pool, Su Tingyun can even taste the saltiness of those tears.

"Mom," the infant Yayu utters weakly, moving toward Su Tingyun. At this moment, Xuanyuan Wentian coldly sneers in his heart but takes no action.

Su Tingyun’s face softens with a gentle smile. Her inherently kind and soothing nature, reflected in her tender eyes, often wins the favor of plants and spiritual beasts. Her gaze now flows like water, calming and inviting.

Initially gripping the spear with both hands, she gradually loosens her left hand, lowering the spear slightly. Her free hand extends toward the Yayu’s head.

The infant Yayu, with its dragon head and tiger body like its mother, gazes at her with wide, round eyes and an innocent, upturned mouth. Immersed in the blood pool, it looks innocent and lovable.

The surrounding blood weeds and blood mosquitoes freeze in place, and the skeletal remains nearby sink out of sight, vanishing entirely.

A faint, holy radiance encircles the infant Yayu, making it appear less like a demonic creature and more like a divine beast emanating auspicious energy. It evokes sympathy and an inexplicable desire to approach.

The moment Su Tingyun’s hand touches the infant Yayu’s head, its smile vanishes. It lets out a piercing screech as countless blood vines swarm forward.

Unfazed, Su Tingyun ignores everything else and tightens her grip on the spear in her right hand and thrusts it forcefully into the infant Yayu’s head.

She hasn’t been blinded by the illusions.

Su Tingyun indeed extends kindness to many people and things, but she shows no mercy to those who harm the ones she cares about.

Every mother loves her child, but sacrificing countless innocent lives to nourish one’s offspring is not a cause for her sympathy.

With Bai Su’s life hanging by a thread and Big Bai’s spirit dangerously weak, this is no time for her to soften her resolve over a demon’s tears. To falter now would mean not only losing her own life but also sacrificing Big Bai, Bai Su, Jiu Yue, the owl, and even the entire beast realm.

The infant Yayu’s first life is already over. Its resurrection has turned it into a monstrous being. The blood weeds, blood veins, and the corpses absorbed into the blood river—all serve as its sustenance. It has gained consciousness and controls the blood in its attacks. Full awakening is near.

Thus, the infant Yayu must die.

Her Heavenly Fire is weak, barely effective against the blood pool or the blood tendrils, but its demon-purging nature still strikes fear in even the Beauty Scroll. Using the elemental powers of the Five Elements, she forcefully amplifies the fire. Wrapping it around the infant Yayu’s head, she follows through with the divine spear, unhesitatingly plunging it into the creature’s skull.

The Yayu’s anguished screams shake the heavens, its cries echoing like a storm. The blood pool bubbles violently as if brought to a rolling boil. The blood vines that had bound Bai Su abandon him entirely, swarming desperately toward Su Tingyun. She gasps in pain as the blood tendril pushes into her body, even forcing its way into her mouth. Her vision turns crimson; she can see nothing. Gripping her spear tightly, she yanks it free and stabs it down again.

The Yayu’s cries shift into the wailing of an infant, sorrowful and piercing.

The overwhelming grief infiltrates her more deeply than the blood tendrils. Tears well up in Su Tingyun’s eyes, but she seems possessed, frantically plunging the spear into the Yayu’s body over and over. Time loses meaning. Finally, the blood tide disperses and vanishes, while a massive wave surges up from the pool, throwing her into the air.

Clutching the spear in one hand and supporting Bai Su with the other, Su Tingyun is swept out of the blood pool by the churning waves.

The blood continues to spread, flooding the sacred temple’s forbidden grounds in the blink of an eye.

Jiu Yue wakes groggily and freezes upon seeing Su Tingyun in the blood. She rushes over, lifting Su Tingyun and Bai Su from the crimson flood. That’s when she notices the spear in Su Tingyun’s grip, impaling the lifeless body of the infant Yayu.

Jiu Yue’s heart skips a beat as she gazes at the dead Yayu. Suppressing her terror, she grabs the shed skin floating in the blood with her tail, holds one person under each arm, and desperately heads for higher ground. The blood gives her an indescribable sense of dread, and her submerged legs feel as though they are being corroded.

Barely managing to climb onto a fallen stone pillar, Jiu Yue catches her breath. Amid her growing anxiety, she notices her spiritual energy slowly beginning to flow.

Is the seal of the forbidden area weakening?

It must be. Something they destroyed has caused the seal’s power to wane. Feeling her spiritual energy return, Jiu Yue regains her composure. She channels her energy to erect a protective barrier, then feeds a medicinal pill to both Su Tingyun and Bai Su.

The next moment, a thunderous boom erupts outside.

Thunder roars, and fierce winds howl incessantly. Standing in the temple, she can hear the sky’s fury and feel the earth trembling. Jiu Yue steadies herself as the entire beast realm quakes violently, as though it might collapse entirely.
