Chapter 172: Revenge

The Ice Cave is cold by nature.

But as everyone fights for their lives, scorching blood ignites their bodies, fear and hatred turn into power, and they no longer mind the cold.

And now, as the icy wind rises, the chill deepens.

Under the ice, blood writhes like snakes, surging toward the feet of the Yayu.

"Such petty tricks," the Yayu scoffs as it stomps down, shattering the blood snakes into fragments. But even in pieces, the blood snakes refuse to die, quickly reforming and gathering around the Yayu again. It roars in anger, and flames rise from its body, instantly evaporating the blood. The female demons watching from afar are immediately disappointed. They are too weak to move, protected only by Jiu Yue's tail; otherwise, they would have rushed forward once more.

Jiu Yue stands immobilized, her feet nailed to the center of a blood lotus. Blood spreads beneath her, but despite the amount of blood seeping out, it doesn't mar the blood lotus pattern. Instead, it seems as if the blood is coloring the lotus.

Her eyes are sunken, her face devoid of color. Her limbs are withered as if her blood and flesh have drained away, leaving behind only a shriveled shell. She had made a pact with the devil, sacrificing her flesh, her blood, and even her eyes. Despite being nailed in place as a sacrificial offering, dazed and nearly delirious, she still instinctively coils her tail around the female demon beasts, wanting to protect them until her dying breath.

The truth is, she discovered the first signs of something amiss about the Beast Saint early on, and that was when it was still weak. If only she had stopped it then.

But the Beast Saint was her hero, the great demon beast who taught her magic and raised her. She couldn’t defy him. For a while, she had even hoped he was simply acting out of necessity and that he would one day return to being the hero he once was. It was only later that she realized the true Beast Saint must have died already. What remained, bearing the same breath as him, was merely a demonic creature who had taken over his body!

Her realization came too late, and she was terrified of death, which brings her to this miserable state. Now, she can only muster her last strength to seek a glimmer of hope for the others.

“Jiu Yue, after all the evil you’ve done—capturing so many girl beasts for me—it’s too late for repentance now, don't you think?”The Yayu’s face cracks into a smile after burning away the blood, but the next moment, its expression shifts. The melted ice turns a dark red, reforming the blood snakes.

This time, the frozen river, which Su Tingyun couldn’t pierce with her Springwater Sword and couldn’t melt with Heavenly Fire, begins to tremble at the bottom. The riverbed cracks open, and countless bones rise to the icy surface, forming a towering wall. At the top of the bone wall lie the recently deceased female demons.

Although the white peacock had self-destructed its primordial spirit, leaving no remains, a single illusory feather now hovers over the pile of bones.

“A true demon has been born,” Xuanyuan Wentian remarks with satisfaction. “That demon, born of resentment, carries my aura. Listen, the thunder outside grows louder.” He had sacrificed a portion of his demonic energy to create this demon, drawing the attention of the heavens, which now suppressed him slightly. But seeing the newly formed demon within the bone pile, he feels the sacrifice was worthwhile.

If he could lure this demon to the Dual Realms Mountain, it might save him from the punishment of lingering torment for at least a hundred years.

The black mass that emerges is sinister and terrifying. Its presence chills the surroundings, and the wails of countless women are a dissonant chorus, like the howling of ghosts and wolves, amplifying the fear. A demon clutching Jiu Yue's tail tries to calm her companions, saying, “Don’t be afraid. That’s our fallen sisters, returning for revenge.”

As she finishes speaking, the monster rushes toward the Yayu. Black energy envelops the Yayu, and together with the underground blood snakes, it invades Yayu's body.

The Yayu cries out in pain. Until now, no one had inflicted any real damage on it, but now its body is covered in wounds. The black energy and blood snakes drill in and out of its body, causing excruciating pain as the Yayu wheezes, its eyes bulging.

The sight reignites hope in the female demons' eyes. But then the Yayu lets out a sharp screech, “I’ve died and been reborn. In my past life, I cultivated as a god; in this life, as a demon. I’ve nearly reached the peak in both! Do you think a mere demon born of resentment can harm me?”

With that, an immense surge of black energy bursts from the Yayu’s body, pushing the demon of resentment back by a full measure.

“Once I devour you, my demonic power will soar!” the Yayu roars. “I devoured you in life, and in death, I shall do the same!”

It grows to a towering height, shattering the Ice Cave and looking down on all the demon beasts and the newborn monster inside. “Die!”

“Nine Heavens Profound Demon!” Xuanyuan Wentian is briefly taken aback. “This Yayu once cultivated the righteous path and reached the Nine Heavens Supreme. Having turned to the demonic path, it has become a Nine Heavens Profound Demon! With it's two lives combined, it’s truly formidable." If you place it on the ancient battlefield of gods and demons, at least a demon general.

“It’s exerting all its strength, so the flame poison will act up faster.” Xuanyuan Wentian notices Yayu’s dragonhead turning red.

“It’s looking at the frozen river!”

Su Tingyun is also watching the frozen river!

After the mass of corpses has risen, the bottom of the frozen river becomes fully visible. At that moment, she sees a pure white, transparent crystal, about the size of a palm, lying on the riverbed. The stone is round, and if Big Bai's were to describe it, it looks like a ball one could roll around for fun.

The stone radiates an extreme cold, and even from a distance, its icy aura could seep to the soul. This is the key to curing the flame poison. However, it also harms the primordial spirit, likely because of its cold poison. This is why Yayu cannot use it directly; it buried the stone beneath the river and further sealed it under bones, allowing the river water to cure the flame poison without being affected by the stone's deadly chill.

Now, with Yayu's flame poison flaring up, it likely seeks this stone to address its urgent need.

Xuanyuan Wentian, weakened by offering his demonic energy, can no longer fully seal the ring's domain with his weakened soul. Su Tingyun, without hesitation, rushes out wearing Big Bai's skin, grabs the round stone from the riverbed, and pulls with all her might.

But...

It doesn't budge!

The Yayu notices her action and roars in fury. Its massive front paw, like a pillar, crashes down towards Su Tingyun. Although Big Bai’s skin cushions the blow, Su Tingyun still coughs up blood, feeling as though her internal organs have been crushed. At that moment, the demon formed of resentment closes in again, wrapping itself around Yayu.

"Get lost!" Yayu, now in a frenzied state, shatters the black demon into pieces.

Su Tingyun tries using her Springwater Sword to pry and pull at the stone. With her current level of power as a Human Immortal, she channels her spiritual energy to its limit, fighting with all her might. Still, she only manages to slightly loosen the stone. Just then, the Yayu’s paw crashes down once more.

"Watch out!" A cacophony of wailing fills the air, and the black demon, though scattered, reassembles, entangling the Yayu again.

"Get back here!" Xuanyuan Wentian shouts.

With bloodied hands, Su Tingyun refuses to let go of the stone. In a critical moment, she finally wrenches it free and instantly retreats to the ring’s world. At that moment, Yayu roars in fury again and again. Without the vital cure for the poison, it knows it will die from the flame poison and never ascend to become a Demon God!

The Yayu's divine sense gathers, and its spiritual aura becomes overwhelmingly powerful, even making Xuanyuan Wentian afraid to confront it head-on. At that moment, the aura of the ring’s world is finally exposed to Yayu's soul.

“A celestial artifact!”It rumbles.

The Yayu takes a step forward but stumbles as its leg suddenly snaps. Looking down, it sees a white peacock feather lodged between its leg bones.

"Even in death, still so troublesome." It angrily roars, shattering the feather. Meanwhile, the dying rabbit demon on the altar weakly opens her eyes, a ray of white light piercing into them before she falls unconscious again. The white peacock had the strongest power in life, and after death, it absorbed much of Xuanyuan Wentian’s demonic energy. Now, this energy flows into the rabbit demon. No one knows whether this is a blessing or a curse in the future.

The Yayu’s legs are broken, but it feels no pain, as the flame poison is now raging through its body. Without immediate relief, its body will explode. Filled with desperation, the Yayu’s ferocious aura locks onto the ring, and its divine soul’s pressure reaches its peak as it charges towards Su Tingyun's domain.

Inside the ring’s world, the earth shakes violently.

The red ball, also known as the Word Spirit, wakes up groggily and immediately notices the round stone in Su Tingyun’s hands. Instantly enamored, she swallows the stone whole.

"Granny, is this iron ball for me? It feels so nice."

"Granny, what happened to your hands?"

Did making this iron ball hurt her hands?

"Granny, you’re injured!"

Big Bai, teary-eyed, suddenly grows larger and leaps out of the ring’s world, standing between Su Tingyun and the Yayu.

The Yayu is momentarily stunned but then dismisses the strange little demon in front of it. “Get lost!” With its claws broken, it swings its tail instead, swatting Big Bai aside like a rolling ball. But to its surprise, Big Bai rolls back and yells, “You hurt Granny! Ugly freak, die!”

Still weak, the Heavenly Dao's Word Spirit's power is limited.

Yet the Yayu, afflicted by the flame poison, is on the brink of death. Without treatment, it will soon die from the poison. What the Yayu didn’t expect was for the Word Spirit's power to push it over the edge.

The flame poison suddenly erupts, and the Yayu’s body cracks open, searing blood oozing from its fur. Its face twists in horror.

In the next instant, with a deafening explosion, the Yayu's body bursts apart, and the entire icy cave under the cliff is flooded with blood…

At the same time, far away, the Ninth Elder, who had been diligently cleaning the Word Spirit Tower, almost knocks over the candlestick beside the Mirror Tablet!

He sees a new line of text appear on the mirror, right after the "Granny, he shall not die."

Another line appears: "You hurt Granny! Ugly freak, die!"

...

Although the Word Spirit has become quite talkative, and its words are amusing, the Ninth Elder cannot laugh. He slams his feather duster on the table and shouts, “Quick, quick, call Bai Su here immediately!”
