Chapter 134: Impoverished Fullness
Su Tingyun feels ill at ease. Having its scales removed, the bloody dragon corpse bothers her. It makes her feel as if she could see a young dragon hatch from its egg, full of anticipation for the future. However, it's brought to the bottom of this pitch-black pool, scales ruthlessly stripped away, and sealed within the sword formation.
There would be a continuous supply of spiritual energy provided by the Snow Lotus. Keeping it alive and growing. However, its growth is not for enjoying life and experiencing the beauty of all things in the world, but rather to endure torment. Through pain and resentment, it would provide an unending source of murderous intent for others' cultivation.
Su Tingyun's eyes are wet, her heart feels like it's clutched tightly between a pair of large hands. She breathes too fast, and her mind feels as if it's deprived of oxygen. Her face turns an unhealthy shade of red.
The piercing crimson color affects her, causing her eyes to turn slightly red as well. Her chest is filled with hatred and murderous intent.
But just then, a coolness comes from within the ring again. This time, it's not transmitted through her fingertips like before. Instead, it's like a gentle breeze blowing through, touching every part of her body, gently caressing her face, and swaying her hair.
Her disheveled hair blocks her vision by accident, and that tiny speck of black, like a stone thrown into a sea of red, pulls Su Tingyun back from the nightmare shown by the young dragon's corpse. She suddenly snaps back to reality, but fear lingers in her heart.
Could it be that Little Uncle went through a mental instability and demonic possession because he pulled out the broken sword and discovered the dragon corpse?
Regardless of what hidden secrets the Obliteration Sword Tower might be concealing, Su Tingyun believes that it was the misdeeds of certain troublemakers among their seniors, not of the current group of lovely people.
Their strength isn't particularly high, but their upright forms have nothing to fear of crooked shadows. These individuals probably have no idea what the seal at the bottom of the pool truly entails.
(a straight body does not fear a crooked shadow: an upright person has nothing to fear from bad rumors or false accusations)
Su Tingyun decides not to let anyone else know about it for now.
Even she has been shaken, so she dares not take any risks: if other fellow disciples were to see it, it could it affect their Dao hearts, right? Su Tingyun uses her Springwater Sword to dig a deep pit in place. She doesn't use any spells, and instead uses her hands to carry the young dragon's corpse into the deep hole. Although the Snow Lotus was the source of the endless torture that was worse than death, Su Tingyun knows that the Snow Lotus itself is not at fault.
On the snow-capped mountain, the Golden-Eyed Dragon watched this flower until death. Perhaps it didn't even realize that the perpetrator would not only take this flower, but also the newly born dragon.
While burying the little dragon, her attention is drawn to the sword wound on its head. There's a strong aura of a killing sword intent, much like what she felt last time on that ancient battlefield. The young dragon must have been at the bottom of this Cleansing Sword Lake from the time of hatching to the hour of its death: no matter its grudge, it's unlikely that this dragon was able to conjure such an ancient battlefield. Thus, the battles and corpses on that battlefield were very likely from the memories of the broken sword instead.
With that background, the original era of the broken sword seems quite old indeed. Su Tingyun is curious about the time when the cultivation world witnessed such a frenzied slaughter.
She buries the young dragon's remains and gently places the withered Snow Lotus at the grave. Then, she looks around but can't find a stone tablet. Most of the swords at the bottom of the pool were destroyed, but some have survived. Su Tingyun finds a broadsword, cuts off its hilt with the Springwater Sword, and carefully fixes it at the grave, as if erecting a headstone.
The Springwater Sword contains the lingering soul of the young dragon.
In the world of cultivation, after living beings die, their primordial spirit returns to the heavens and the earth, and disappear completely. Perhaps strong resentment or consciousness might linger, but that consciousness is no longer the same as the original being. The Springwater Sword was nailed at a vital point seven inches into the dragon's body, so the remnant soul entered the Springwater Sword through the blade.
However, it's not complete. It only contains murderous intent. Su Tingyun tightens her grip on the sword, and she says, "We'll seek vengeance for you together."
With that, she activates the Springwater Sword and inscribes words on the broadsword.
"Grave of the Impoverished Fullness."
From the nourishment the keeps one empty, one seeks the peace of extinction, desiring nothing but freedom.
Su Tingyun stands quietly at the grave for a long time. When she turns to leave, the Springwater Sword emits a faint sound. As she emerges from the water, Zhan Yu immediately approaches her and asks urgently, "What happened at the bottom of the lake? The entire thing is murky."
The water in the Cleansing Sword Lake is usually crystal clear, and from the surface, you'd normally be able to see the densely packed flying swords at the bottom. But at this moment, the water is turbid like mud, and the naked eye can't see those flying swords underneath.
"There was something wrong with the sword formation at the seal under the lake. Little Uncle must have pulled out the broken sword that was sealing the formation, causing chaos in the sword array there. Everyone should avoid going into the pool for now."
Su Tingyun says with a serious expression to the people surrounding her.
Elder Yan has already been sent back to his room to rest, but everyone else is present. Su Tingyun doesn't mention the matter of the young dragon. Instead, she asks, "How long has the seal in the Cleansing Sword Lake been in place? Do we have any relevant information? I'd like to see if we can find a way to restore the seal."
Su Tingyun furrows her brows and continues, "Little Bai doesn't know where Little Uncle went. I think maybe we should start by investigating the broken sword on that seal. After all, Little Uncle is only at the Nascent Soul stage, and his own strength shouldn't be enough to hide from Little Bai-- unless there's something suspicious about that sword."
