,I don't know if it's going to help any but maybe it's worth checking out what's the vampire made out of because they have extremely quick skill gain at night....

happy you like it and actually trying to make it work ! thank you so much!!! a couple more ideas like that and you will turn Sims into an RPG! 💪💪💪😂

Thank you so much!! Honestly, I was blown away by your suggestion and kept thinking, “How didn’t I think of this before?” xD Overall, for the type of mods I’m creating, it aligns perfectly! It’s a huge step towards making each Sim less generic and more unique in their behavior. So thank you for sharing this idea with us!!

Yes!! I agree, it shows that even without talent, with effort, dedication, and time, it’s possible to get there. On the other hand, it also prevents all Sims from becoming potentially talented in a short period of time. Perhaps now, mastering a skill might take an entire lifetime (or almost) instead of just a week!

I suspect it might not be possible, but I’ll definitely check. The work of reducing the default skill gain has already been done. Now comes the harder part, which is locating all the individual skill parameters to apply a greater boost. This way, the skill gain race becomes more contrasting between Sims with a "vocation" and regular Sims. If there’s a possibility to add secondary traits to this boost, I’ll do my best to ensure it’s properly balanced. By the way, I loved the suggestion! Very strategic!

there's probably quite a few traits that can help with the same skill gain.. like if you put someone who's athletic as well as likes the outdoors will that be double gain on fitness...?

Alex Shemesh

I think a slower skill gain for not "naturally gifted" Sims is going to make skill gain more meaningful, like if the "normal guy" eventually does reach level 10 painting even though he's not naturally gifted at it and is just as good, has a lot of value actually 👍👍👍

(hopefully I'm not accidentally replying to myself so there will be double) 😏. that is some glorious brain food you're suggesting! I think your second option with the much slower skill gain for Sims with no special traits would make a lot more sense and it's probably more doable! best of luck!!!💪💪💪💪💪

Another possible approach would be to make progression in all skills MUCH slower by default, and then Sims with specific traits (X) would receive a progression boost. In other words, Sims without the Athletic trait could still exercise, but it would take days to reach level 1. On the other hand, an Athletic Sim would progress much faster in the skill because they have a "calling" for it. This could make the trait system feel more impactful, allowing players to focus on traits that align with the type of Sim they want to create, while still leaving room for exploration and experimentation with other traits. It also balances the gameplay without completely restricting Sims from trying new things!

I have good news and bad news. My initial approach didn’t work as I expected. However, after racking my brain, I came up with a different solution to approach your idea. I’ve always liked the idea of “Stereotypes” for The Sims. Before traits, The Sims 3 had “Personas,” which were archetypes like Rock Star, Athlete, Hermit, etc. My question to you: WHAT IF... we locked skills behind traits? In other words, to learn painting, you’d need to have the Artistic trait (or any other traits related to art). To gain Athletic skill, the Sim would need traits related to exercise. And so on. Pros and Cons: Pros: -Encourages players to dynamically experiment with new personality traits they might have never used before. -Prevents Sims without the required trait from developing certain skills. For instance, only Sims with Artistic traits would become painters in town. -The Sims 3 worlds would be divided into “castes,” similar to SimCity Societies, where each archetype would have its own set of exclusive behaviors. If you see a Sim playing guitar on the street, you can be sure they’re Virtuoso (for example). Cons: -Interactions related to hobbies like painting would be disabled for Sims who don’t have the required trait to paint. -Limits the number of (potential) activities we might see Sims engaging in around the world. Although now, they’d only practice activities that truly align with their personality. -Many players might think it’s a bug because they don’t read mod descriptions. (But honestly, that doesn’t bother me much—I can always inform them in the first line. xD) Note: I could LIMIT skill acquisition directly on objects BUT still keep classes and books available for everyone.* Overall, I think these are the strengths and weaknesses. We could take skill dynamics to the next level and make them even more special and meaningful since they’d be restricted to specific groups. Obviously, I’ll need to create a list of traits and skills to ensure, for instance, that similar traits can share interests and activities for certain objects. What do you think of this approach? I’ll wait for your response before starting to work on it. I believe it’s a great direction. Although there are limitations, they’ll encourage exploring other mechanics as you suggested, which could be a meaningful way to inspire players to try different methods to achieve their goals. **An unusual situation I just remembered: Imagine a Sim without the Artistic trait. They could learn the Painting skill through books or classes, BUT they still wouldn’t be able to paint because they don’t have the trait. So, unless the player buys this trait from the aspiration store, the Sim would know everything "theoretically" but could only practice with the trait. xD

Wow Wow Wow Wooooow WAIT! WHAT AWESOME IDEAS! I definitely need to try this. My first thought was: It requires scripting skills. But then I remembered that MAYBE it's possible to apply a negative value by linking traits to skills via itun, to prevent progress as you suggested! I definitely want to try this, I LOVE your suggestion!! Thank you very much for shared with me <3 <3

hey! sorry for putting it here but discord was being rebellious 😏 I know it has nothing to do with your current mayor project but I was thinking : wouldn't it be cool if personality traits came with certain blocks to skills? for example there is no reason that a "couch potato" will ever reach level 10 in fitness or someone who dislikes art ever reaches level 10 in painting... cuz when you play with a sim for too long ,they will inevitably reach level 10 in everything so their personality doesn't matter. I think that putting blocks in skill gaining due to certain traits will make for a more dynamic gameplay where you have to move to different jobs or take on a side hustle to increase your income because you just *can't* progress in your current job while someone else is thriving because there are different person. looking for a spouse will have more meaning because they will be able to do things you can't because of different character traits , it will also give the player more of a reason to use alternative methods for skill gaining ,like potions , or taking classes. if someone in the family has the genius trait, they could tutor your sim to help with skill gaining... I definitely think it will be more challenging, not to mention that the "Renaissance sim" aspiration shouldn't be so easy to achieve - not everybody is able to be a charismatic ,artistic ,fit ,genius after all...😜 anyways just wanted to share an idea -have a good day!
