An autistic child lining up their toys is doing childhood wrong, joyless autism experts have explained.
Seven-year-old Finley Rice, who gets immense pleasure from arranging his toys by size and colour, has been told to stop it immediately and do something he enjoys a lot less.
Clinical psychologist, Karen Hoyland, 38, said: “Of course Finley should be able to be himself - but the stakes of how he chooses to spend his Sunday afternoons in the privacy of his own home are simply too high.”
“Ideally what we’d like to see is Finley picking up the toys and waving them around making a ‘niaaaaaaaowwww’ noise that’s supposed to be a plane flying,” Hoyland continued. “Instead of whatever it is he’s doing now.”
Rice commented: “Look! I made a rainbow! This is fun.”
Hoyland responded: “No it’s not.”
