Discussing AKOTSK Episode 3 with Alt Schwift X

Hi πŸ‘‹ here's this week's! It is 3 and a half hours long for some reason. Apologies for how long the visuals took this time; there were some delays in the prep because it was my birthday, and the ASX production line wasn't as snappy as it was last week.

We continue to have a blast doing this and we hope you have a blast also.

My plans to make a video on the music of this show are still plans. I wanted to get that done last week, but it was my birthday so I spent time doing birthday things. In the interest of not pushing myself too hard I'm not going to say when it will be done. Maybe it's for the best to wait until all 6 episodes have aired, so I can talk about the entire season rather than awkwardly do it half way through.

This is the stuff.

Here's my theory I don't actually believe in myself: Dunk is richer than a Lannister because Rohannes twins Tion and Tywald are actually Dunks. That's why Tion became Eggs squire and why he knighted Tywald before his death.

Okay I thought the app or my head phones had broken when I hit this πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… thank goodness someone else mentioned it!!

I'm usually bad at this, but I'm thinking Plummer (especially given his vibe and curiously inconsistent behaviour according to the context) is perhaps another Maynard Plumm. I kinda like the idea that he has been watching Dunk since the first adventure, testing him.

im watching it with my mom who's as casual of a viewer as it gets. she didn't connect egg being a targaryen but kept bringing up that he's so well spoken and must've been somewhat upper class from the beginning so i guess that's something

Watching with my husband who hasn’t read the books and I’m proud to say that he clocked Egg as a Targaryen from the first trailer. Alyn of Hull on HOTD taught him to be suspicious of a bald head.

Another great.... review(?) guys! For me this show is firing on all cylinders. The acting, atmosphere, character beats (Aegon especially this episode), and the armor and designs are all insanely good. You guys summed up why this show works better than something like HotD S2 or the later half of GoT with this point in the video: not everything on screen is directly from the books, but everything shown is sourced from them in some way. These writers are expanding the material and connecting the dots, not redrawing most of the picture. They respect the lore and build upon it. That’s why this lands so well (so far), while other seasons felt like they were inventing unnecessary plots and themes the source never would support or spinning their wheels with certain character plotlines.

I think aerions actors performance was great, he even does this weird tongue thing that's very dragon-like.

about the colourful and flamboyant villians: Could it be to avoid homophobic stereotypes or sth? Like the Baron in Dune is overtly a homophobic stereotype because of Frank Herbert's disdain for the gays. Maybe they don't wanna "disney-villian-ify" their characters? As a gay, I think it's a loss, but maybe that's one of the reasons. (besides budget)

There feels like there's an undertone of the Targs not getting the sort of respect they did when they had fast, point to point weapons of mass destruction on hand. I'm pretty sure no-one would have mispronounced a name or chucked a rock at them a hundred years ago, because their entire village would have been genocided - which can't happen now thanks to the Dance. In short, Targs aren't what they used to be.

Interesting to hear that a blonde Targ has black pubes. I don't know what I expected, but apparently I'm surprised by that. There's a rather long pause in this audio around 2:40:05-2:40:49, You'll probably notice it when editing video, but it confused me while listening, thought my laptop had an issue. I'm gonna be that Tolkien fan and say Tolkien never really finished writing. He kept going back and rewriting and tweaking. There are like 5 different versions of Galadriel's story! Sure his most popular works The Hobbit and LOTR were finished, but what he considered his greatest work The Silmarilion wasn't finished. His son complied it from his notes, and it was published after his death. I don't think Tolkien would ever have been finished, he'd have kept on tweaking forever. On the other hand I think George really wants to be finished. If he had all the planned novels finished he might write more stories in the same world, but he wouldn't consider it unfinished.

Haven’t finished the dunk time ep yet, but do y’all think the master of the games will be pressured to make it seem like Dunk approached HIM about fixing a match???

Can't believe you guys brought up Oney. Weird to hear my one sleep-playlist content creator mention the other one lol

I think the herald actually is mispronouncing it (like intentionally within the narrative) because the closed captions write it "Meakar". Like he cares so little about the guy he doesn't bother to pronounce his name right. But when Egg sings his song it's "Prince Maekar sprang out last". But also in episode 2 the captions for the herald say "Maekar" the proper way despite him pronouncing it "Meakar" there too. So it's all very confusing I dunno where I'm going with this.

My favorite hint that egg was at least nobility was that he says "my lord" not "m'lord"

And Egg's pep talk to Thunder was adorable

The whole discussion about the Alys song was why I love this show
