Discussing HOTD S2E07 with Alt Schwift X

Comments

i now honestly think they waited for the blog post

Jacek Pietrasik

for real.... where's a red witch when you need one

Giorgio Nicholas Gregoris

s02 finale? you mean the s03 trailer?

Jacek Pietrasik

Finale was so bad it killed Schwift and Glidus

cat named toebean

Will we ever be getting a breakdown of the finale ☹️

Justin Parker

Bro she was made cupbearer and Viserys tried to control her but she constantly did whatever she wanted, lied about what she did, flew off on dragons and had no interest in taking her duties seriously when she so vagrantly flaunted her relationship with Harwin Strong. She was given every opportunity and she threw them all away and now claims she was never given the same opportunities. She was literally apart of the small council and chose not to learn anything from years of doing so. She should be doing a lot more than bitching about unfairness when she was a fucking princess and heir to the throne.

“I’m excusing bad writing because we shouldn’t hold things to standards we’ve already been shown exist” go cope elsewhere I’ll have none of it

cat named toebean

Hey so how do you feel about them not addressing it with Corlys and Rhaenyra but Alyn brings up his dead son to him and he says nothing? Cuz I’m feeling like they just forgot Corlys believes Rhaenyra killed his son and heir, which is definitely worse than lampshading it imo.

I watch dragontime when I'm torturing myself with exercise, and I very much appreciate looking at dragons and funny white-haired people when holding a plank. Love the visuals.

re: informal survey at the end, I mainly watch Dragon Time on my phone between calls at work but always have the video on because I like to look out for the fun editing bits specifically. these have really been the highlight of a summer that's been truly awful for me thus far so thank you for them all!

Saint Naive

Also, the citation conversation might be my new favourite moment in a collab video. As a lifelong researcher, it makes me so happy to hear you discuss primary sources and how Wikipedia is a starting point and how interpretation can change how information is passed on, it was just so much fun. And conversations like these are what GRRM is trying to bring about with the structure of F&B. Plus, my work in grad school was all about the accessibility and searchable of research texts and when Schwift was saying “in the year of our lord 2024” you should be able to click on a citation and ctrl f the document for yourself, I was so vindicated because I have levelled exactly that rant at many, many people in the last decade 🤣

The Bog Queen

I absolutely watch all these videos. I’ve been embroidering Targaryen sigil variations while watching them, and it’s perfect. It’s invaluable to me to see exactly what scene and moment you’re discussing as you break everything down. I’m as fascinated by the minutiae and I want to see the expressions/costumes/shots as you discuss them. And I’ve noticed more and more little notes and jokes in the edits, which I love. I don’t have the technical jargon to explain this properly, but I appreciate the way you adjust your style to suit the content. It always augments, never distracts. And it never fails to make me laugh or smile or learn. I do know that the editing is a lot of work, it’s been disheartening to see how much people underestimate and disregard that. It bothers me a lot to see people constantly make comments about when videos are released or how long it takes. This is so much work, so much dedication and time, just to entertain us. So, thank you for that too. It’s so much work to give us dragon talk and jokes, and it means a great deal to me.

The Bog Queen

I think people are saying it, lol. Also Rhaenyra not acknowledging the implications of Seasmoke taking a new rider. Maybe she feels the need to keep it under wraps because no one around her knows that Laenor was last known to be alive, but I think we should have gotten a facial expression at least. Maybe even a softening of her “idgaf if daemon ever comes home” position, because she’s so distraught and he’s the only one she can talk to about it.

ES

That is SUCH a good point that could have worked really well for me too if they’d ever actually said it in the show. It’s a great interpretation, but they never said it! I didn’t think of it, so the story did not benefit from that context in my head. She easily could have said it in her argument with Daemon! “He wasn’t afraid of you, Daemon! He couldn’t trust you! My father choose me to be his heir because he trusted that I would maintain the peace, as he did.” Then have her looking at and fondling the crown whenever her advisors are pushing her to do war stuff that she eventually refuses. Have her mention Viserys sometimes, maybe even as bluntly as, “would you have me spit on the memory of my father, on the very reason he named me heir, by discarding the peace he labored to uphold and plunging the realm into war and bloodshed?” You’re so right, and I’m annoyed that I am first encountering this idea from a rando on the internet rather than in the actual text of the show.

ES

Same

ES

I've listened to the theory streams and the ones on Spotify at least 10 times each. It's a bit of a comfort listen

Luthien Tinuviel

I typically listen AND watch. And usually work on a project of some kind (crochet, painting, cleaning, etc)

Kayla Jeffers

I also would enjoy the discussions even more without the content from trailers. But you can’t please everyone and they should do what they like. :-)

Vivus

me: Keeping the furthest distance possible from these trailers ASX: How about NO?

Joramsim

This is literally the highlight of my week every time it comes out and I’m sad there is only one more episode of dragon show left :(

Drew Stanwood

It's certainly not written perfectly or with continuity fully ironed out. Most TV shows are not meant to be scutinzed as intensely as the ones based on ASOIAF.

Jordan Smith

If you click youtube link, you can have youtube save the video to watch online. With that said, an audio feed of these would be pretty neat.

Jordan Smith

Thank you for bringing up the issue of HOTD relying on implications. The lack of “son for a son” was so anticlimactic. The time skips frustrated me in season 1 (Alicent’s wedding, Harwin, etc.) and now even though they’ve slowed down in season 2, they don’t manage to finish most of the conversations. I rolled my eyes so hard at the Stark reply to what’s beyond the North being “death” and Jace just model posing to the distance rather than asking a follow up question. He hadn’t even heard the prophecy yet so I really feel like that warranted a continued conversation.

Emily

Appreciate your work this season, gents! I’ve made this an essential part of my weekly routine 🙃 Regarding the jarring-ness of Rhaenyra doing nothing for a lot of this season…for me, it works well when you think about what Viserys taught her about ruling…or didn’t. That she tried every avenue possible to avoid bloodshed really jives with her peace/party-loving, sort of incompetent father. Damn, now I’m reminded of Otto paying tribute to old Vizzy T earlier this season…

WanderingCoelacanth

Absolutely, same here!

WanderingCoelacanth

I think it’s not as bad as Davos/Tyrion because they haven’t lampshaded it…yet. And disagree, HoTD is not badly written. People acting like S2 is equivalent to the latter seasons of GoT is wild.

WanderingCoelacanth

I wonder, is there a way to listen to these amazing discussions offline? I love listening while out and about, but reception is sketchy

Luthien Tinuviel

I love when you bring on Special Guest: Alt Schwift X

Tater

Corlys not saying anything to Rhaenyra about her killing his son is on par with Davos only mentioning that Tyrion killed his son and friends. But no one wants to talk about that since everyone refuses to acknowledge this show is badly written.

cat named toebean

another certified djawadi banger tbh

Tina Oestreich

Need my weekly 3 hour analysis of the 1 hour dragon episode. Please and thankyou guys, love your work.

Sean Brocklehurst

THE FINALE GOT LEAKED?! Bro can we have nothing in this world?? It feels like there’s just no regard for spoilers anymore. You go on YouTube and you’ll see just straight pirated scenes from brand new movies with the scenes description as the title, so you can’t even try to scroll past it without actually knowing what happened. This is just fucking ridiculous, I should not have to avoid the entirety of the internet to enjoy a show or movie.

cat named toebean

Mind you, Quentyn was the master at arms of the Red Keep, he trained both Daeron's sons (Baelon and Maekar) and Daemon Blackfyre, so he was absolutely qualified for the position.

Diego Alexander

Quentyn Ball "Fireball" sent his wife to the Silent Sisters because Aegon IV promised him a position in the kingsguard, but then Daeron II said "naaaah", which directly led to the First Blackfyre rebellion.

Diego Alexander

this episode cemented rhaenyra’s theme in my head

BigSaggy

The essence of Targaryenism 🤌 thanks, you two!
