Chapter 130 : Blizzard

“I'm going to use a spell called Blizzard now. I've never used it before so I don't know if I can activate it properly. I'm good at Wind magic but not so at Water magic. That's why I want the two of you to help me with Water magic.

I think that Firestorm is a magic that can be activated by several people because Lady Recca said something about myself using Firestorm with only one person.

I think this is a Water magic version of that so I believe it can be manifested by more than one person too. Even if it fails, Tornado should definitely be able to bury the killer bees. The reason why I wanted to defeat it with Blizzard is to counter the hellsnakes. This is my own thinking but perhaps a hellsnake is vulnerable to cold. If I manage to use Blizzard now, I think I can broaden my strategy in the future. So both of you please lend me your strength."

I said all at once, and they nodded.

“Alright! Let's go! Blizzard!"

I use Water magic to lower the temperature inside the Tornado while I activated Tornado. Clarice and Misha's Water magic lowered the temperature inside the Tornado instantly.

The moisture from the surrounding fog becomes a sharp blade of ice and the inside of Blizzard becomes a hellscape. Countless blades of ice sliced through the killer bees which were stuck in the cold. The killer bees were wiped out in less than 10 minutes. The higher species in the nest also seemed to have died before long.

The hellsnakes near the nest were also slowed by the cold, and six of them were swallowed by Blizzard and died. And unlike when we killed Trent with fire, no magic beasts came near the area where we released Blizzard. This would be quite powerful magic in the Forest of Death.

The remaining four rushed towards us. I was about to intercept them when I heard a thud next to me. I looked in the direction of the sound and to my surprise, Misha had fallen!

“Misha! What's wrong?"

I repeatedly cast Heal and Cure on Misha but she did not wake up. When I appraised Misha, I found that her MP had been reduced to zero. Blizzard had emptied her MP. I can't believe she kept consuming MP all the way until she collapsed. ...a runaway elf, so scary.

Well considering a normal person's MP, it's only enough to fire one shot... and if you can keep that up for less than 10 minutes, regardless of the burden being split by three people activating the spell, your MP will soon run out...

“Clarice! We're retreating to Ellie and the others! I'll take the leader role later so it might be tough but you'll have to carry Misha on your back. I'll use Wind magic to assist you so I don't think you'll feel that much weight!”

I handed Misha, who had fallen asleep, over to Clarice without waiting for her reply in a piggyback ride and she quickly ran to Ellie and the rest. To be honest, I think I could easily defeat four of the hellsnakes right now. But it's no good if I'm the only one who gets stronger. I can't always be around everyone.

I hurried back to Ellie and the others, who were already ready for battle.

“Clarice, Ellie, Karen, Ryner! I want you to finish off the hellsnakes one by one! I'll keep watch for the surroundings! I'll help you as soon as you’re in danger! Karen! You can use your Fire magic here so use it to your fullest!"

I received Misha who was sleeping due to MP depletion from Clarice.

My guess is that Ellie and Karen would be the ones who would take them down the fastest while Clarice and Ryner would struggle a lot. Clarice's stats is the second highest after mine but everything is average. She's somewhere between me and Baron so although I didn't think she'd lose but I knew she'd lack the decisive attack and would take a long time to take down a hellsnake.

I don’t think Ellie would be in any hard time because she has overwhelming advantage in terms of strength and agility and Karen could easily take a hellsnake down with a few Flares.

I estimated Ryner would take the longest but least worrying. Ryner's defensive capabilities cannot be broken by a hellsnake.

However, my expectations were greatly betrayed. It was Clarice who first defeated her hellsnake. She used Water magic to lower the temperature around the hellsnake, slowing its movements, and hitting its temple all the way with her Magic Arrow every attack. It is said that many snakes are weak to cold and the hellsnakes were no exception.

The next one to finish is Karen. It was defeated without any difficulty by a simple repetitive labor of just hitting it with Flares.

Surprisingly, it was Ellie who took a much longer time. It was difficult to reach the hellsnake’s vital points with a dagger and she had trouble piercing its scales. Even so, Clarice, Ellie, and Karen were definitely amongst B-rank adventurers as they were able to defeat a hellsnake with only a little damage on their side.

Ryner was the last one to finish his fight and he had the hardest time. The hellsnake’s physical attacks were easy to handle but when it sprayed a large amount of dissolving fluid, Ryner's agility was not enough to avoid it and there were holes all over his clothes. If this was a girl in a dress... I used Heal on Ryner repeatedly and he managed to defeat the hellsnake.

Once we finished defeating the hellsnakes, we decided to retreat to the fort. It would indeed be dangerous for Misha to stay like this. When we were retreating, 20 or 30 killer bees attacked us but Clarice shot them all down with her magic bow. Clarice spoke to me excitedly.

“I can now attack with my bow while using magic like Mars! I tried it out with the hellsnake and it went surprisingly well. I've been a bit frustrated with my lack of growth lately but now I have a wider range of fighting styles. I'll continue to get stronger step by step so I can be of help to Mars."

I had noticed the hints of Clarice's motivation for fighting had been dropping recently but I didn't realize that was the case. ...I want to apologize for not realizing that. But there are things I could do now that I know.

This time, the three of us destroyed the killer bees' nest instantly and killed some hellsnakes so my level went up by one, Clarice's level went up by one and Misha's level went up by two. To my surprise, she got the title ‘Bow King’ even though her archery level remained the same. When I told her…

“Really!? But I do feel the change. When I defeated killer bee earlier, I wondered when I became able to shoot such a small target so accurately and fast from far away.”

She spoke excitedly.

“When you defeated killer bee earlier, that was really amazing. We might land ourselves in a situation where magic can't be used in the Forest of Death so when that happens we’ll rely on Clarice to defeat killer bees.”

Clarice nodded happily at my words as she answered with an “of course”. S,so cute...

When we reached the fort safely, I put Misha to bed and we took a bath and ate a light meal.

“This isn't enough for me after such a delicious meal in the morning. Clarice, can you cook again? Clarice's cooking has a flavor that you don't get in the Lister Confederacy and I've become a fan of the taste.”

When Karen said so, I also added.

“Certainly...the seasoning is gentle but it's not like it’s light. It's the best food I've ever had."

“...now...Clarice's...meat dish...please!..."

Ellie liked it too. And even Ryner.

“If you and Mars ever get married, you'll have to cook for us once in a while. I really like how the seasoning was done in that dish too."

They all praised Clarice. Clarice got embarrassed.

“I-I understand. Then I'll make a meat dish for the evening."

Clarice said resignedly and everyone was very excited. Clarice immediately started preparing the evening meal. Even though I just had a late lunch...I feel sorry for her... Ellie and Karen will help(I hope) Clarice later...although for all intents and purposes it looks like Ellie is just trying to test-taste the food.

Ryner and I decided to head over to the Baron’s place and watch Minerva progress. Minerva's handling of the chains had improved considerably and she deftly hooked the chains onto the killer ant's leg, rolled it over, and killed it with her sword.

“Minerva, you have improved a lot.”

When I spoke to Minerva, she looked happy.

“Yes! But really, what I wanted to do was stab it with the tip of the chain but even if I did it, I still can't defeat it and I lose to the killer ant in the pulling strength. I heard that you don't really use the chains in this way but I'll try to use them in my own way once my strength value increases.

I'm going to go to the shops and look for chains equipment. I heard that there are chains that extend when enchanted with magic power. The margrave said that I should choose such chains because I have a lot of MP. Also, I heard that chains equipment is very cheap because there aren't many chains users."

Both Baron and Dominic are working very hard to support Minerva. I'm very happy with the way things are moving in a very positive direction. That’s despite everything that's happened.
