Chapter 118 : Vampires

11 September 2030, 8:30pm.

I and Ryner went to the east gate one step ahead of Ellie and Misha. The two girls will be coming after taking a bath.

After swapping with Clarice and the others at the east gate, we immediately started defeating the magic beasts. Do these magic beasts really stop appearing at midnight? The magic beasts are coming towards us in lines from beyond the horizon.

After a little while, Ellie and Misha arrived and I started to build something with Earth magic outside the eastern gate.

I used Earth magic to build a stone house. It's a one-story house with a bathroom complete with a toilet and, as usual, beds. And this time the bed is probably more than a king size.

The reason why it is so big is that I had Irina prepare a bedding*1 for me beforehand, and both the mattress and quilt she prepared were of a size that would be used by nobles.

The reason why I made these now is because I wanted to proceed east tomorrow in perfect condition. After building the house to some extent, we went back to everyone and started defeating the magic beasts.

Around 23:00, the number of magic beasts decreased considerably, and by midnight, only a few magic beasts had appeared.

“Listen everyone. I'm going to rest for three hours now. And after three hours, this time you all need to take a rest. Depending on everyone's MP condition, I would wake you around 8am. I'll tell you the detailed plan tomorrow when everyone is here. OK?"

In the end, only about 10 magic beasts came after I woke up and switched to the night watch with the three of them. And now everyone from Daybreak clan is all gathered at the east gate. And everyone looks refreshed and in perfect physical condition.

“Alright, we will now march east. I'll have two of the Fortitude to stay behind in case of an emergency. I intend to find out where these magic beasts are coming from by the end of the day.”

Since I had informed Ryner in advance, he and Bram nodded. The magic beasts are now coming towards us from far away in lines.

These magic beasts are really well-behaved... They don't come at night and they attack in the morning adjusting to our lifestyle.

We are marching east with two parties of Reimei and Genesis. The main three people who fight the magic beasts are Misha, Baron, and Dominic who are at a lower level. Well, Misha's level is already higher than mine even though I said her level is low.

Minerva has the lowest level but since her only means of attack is magic, I decided not to let her participate in the attack in order to conserve MP. Instead, Minerva is working hard with the chains I gave her yesterday.

She seems to be studying various things with a book in her hand...The title of the book was ‘Introduction to Bondage’...I glanced at the contents but women were being tied in various ways inside...Minerva... just what are you trying to achieve...? Furthermore, Karen is looking at it with interest. I think Karen is the only one who should never learn anything from this... There’re whips and ropes, and the next one will be the wax... I definitely do not want to have someone in my party who is a wax technique user regardless of how strong they are. That will definitely put the nail into my coffin.

The journey to the east is going well. The magic beasts kept coming out with a threat level of D so although both Baron and Dominic were taking some damage, it felt like they were able to triumph with room to spare.

After about two hours of walking around killing enemies, we found something in the distance. As we gradually get closer, the other members of the team notice it too.

“What exactly...? Is that...?"

Baron muttered, and everyone looked ahead and saw a large wall about 100 meters away.

The wall was slightly suspended in mid-air and looked somewhat familiar, and the magic beasts seemed to be springing from it.

“Everyone be careful! Make sure you don't ever touch that wall!”

As we got closer to the wall, kicking away the magic beasts that were coming from the wall, we saw something like the wall of a labyrinth floating in the air. And one bat is flying above that wall.

Gradually, as the distance between the wall and us grew narrowed, the bat suddenly changed shape. Its face was a little red, it had fangs and there were no shadows...

“Could it be a vampire...?”

Clarice was thinking the same thing as me. A vampire has the image of a pale white face but the rest of its physical features are exactly like vampires. There is no doubt that it is summoning(?) magic beasts.

But don't vampires turn to ash when exposed to sunlight? I knew that it is definitely an enemy so I appraised it without hesitation.

My guess’s on the money, he’s a vampire... I have an image of vampires as having overwhelming physical strength but its strength was not as high as I thought. Regardless, his strength crossed over 3 digits… also what is Gate Magic? This is the first time I saw one... Depending on the Gate Magic, it might not be impossible to win despite his high stats.

When I took my stance after taking out Thunder Sword and Salamander Sword, Reimei members heightened their guard.

“What are you doing here?!”

I asked Upial, and little by little Upial walked toward us. When Upial moved away from the wall, the wall disappeared from the air.

Then he glared at me and closed the distance instantly before attacking me with his sharp fangs and claws. I activated Sylphid to its fullest, put magic power into my Thunder Sword, and cut down Upial's claws.

“My Magic Eyes doesn't work...? It is inconceivable that a student has more magic power than me... perhaps a special constitution...?"

As Upial said this, the claw that should have been cut was already regenerating.

“Everyone retreat! I'll defeat this guy!"

After saying so, the members of Reimei and Genesis retreated with their guards up.

“You want to defeat me? You, a mere student?”

Upial casted Flare and released it at me as he said the above. Then Upial himself attacked me at the same time.

I blasted the Flare away with Wind Impulse and intercepted Upial.

This time, I also activated Vision while fighting.

Upial seemed to be very experienced in combat and attacked me in many unexpected ways.

When I tried to repel a claw attack with my sword, the claw shrank and when it passed through the sword, it extended again and scratched my cheek. Also when I thought I had definitely got him in the bag, he turned into countless bats at that moment and evaded my attack... However, turning into a bat seemed to be an emergency evasion, so he does not use it that much. Perhaps turning into bats limits his means of attack.

But no matter how you look at it, I'm the one disadvantaged now.

In terms of agility, Upial is higher than me so I had to use Kamui as emergency evasion when I am unable to evade his attacks with just a fully deployed Sylphid. Kamui gives me explosive speed but it damages my body each time I use it. Every time I used Kamui, I had to use a High Heal on myself.

After numerous attacks from Upial, I learned something from the clashes. My Wind Cutter did not do as much damage as I expected.

Many times my chantless Wind Cutter would hit Upial but I couldn't slice off his arm.

And the accelerated HP recovery causes his HP to be restored during the battle...

"That swordsmanship, that chantless Wind magic... it’s too much power for a student... but you're no match for me! As long as I watch out for your sword, you basically do no damage to me. If you come under my command right now, I will forgive you. And I can give a good report to Lady Carmilla."

Lady Carmilla? She’s his superior huh... And what Upial said is right. It seems that just Wind magic is not enough to do effective damage to him.

Upial's attacks are getting intense and bolder. He seems to think he can completely ignore my Wind magic now.

Even if I do 10-20 damage with Wind Cutter, Upial's HP is full as we continue to the sword claw fight... This is not going to get us anywhere...I realized that I couldn’t win unless I fight him with Lightning magic with all my might.

“Clarice! Retreat backward and barrier!"

I said to Clarice and she seemed to know what I was going to do. After everyone moved further back behind Clarice, she used her Barrier magic.

The battle between me and Upial is getting to the climax.
