Chapter 16 : The Demon King

"Dressing up like a ninja, you're a gifted too right? It's your last chance, so give it your best shot."

The man's attitude was that of the strong one overwhelming others.

“...excuse me, I’m very sure that I will absolutely never win against you so can’t you just let me go...?”

"Don't disappoint me. It's been a long time since I've been out on the field and I'm quite eager to get some exercise. Can you at least try to outdo these cops?”

"This is quite troubling for…..me you know!"

At that very moment, he unleashes a string of Invisible Slashes.

The attacks he used are most likely not effective against that man. However, after increasing his proficiency at using Invisible Slash, he could split iron plates into two. It should be able to do a bit of damage...was what he assumed but that man ate his attacks and appeared without a single scratch.

"?! Are you a monster!"

"This is quite the surprise.... That slash-type gift you used just now should be quite the high rank one, right? Are you from the NDF?"

What the heck is wrong with you eating that so called ‘quite the high rank slash-type gift’ and acting like nothing has happened?! Is what Kouki was screaming inside him.

"The NDF? Can you please not lump me together with that organization full of crazy people?"

"...hoh, I agree that the NDF is a rotten organization. What are you then? Despite having that much of power...are you telling me that you are only a stray filth?"

Stray... Kouki himself doesn’t think so, but he doesn’t have an answer for that question yet.

(It's a little early, but I think it's time. I'm not sure what that ability is, but I'd like to get it if I could. ......But with the details of Revived Hunter's abilities still unknown, it's too risky to go out there and die.)

Kouki activated his Speed Star and headed for the exit.

The next moment, however, the entrance door was covered by a pitch-black wall.

Originally it was Kouki’s side who stuck his head where it doesn’t belong to… Now that it comes to this, he has no choice but to straighten out his backbone.

"No choice but to do it...!"

He released an Invisible Slash, creating an opening and then activated Speed Star. He picked up a police baton that was lying down near his foot and swung it full power to that man.

Kouki instantly took his distance from him.

He activated his Speed Star. He put in much more power than he ever had. Then, he rushed to that man’s body again.

"Wait! Listen to me..."

It was a torrent of reckless attacks. But Kouki did not intend to kill himself.

And what he aimed for was...

The joint of that man's right arm. He thought that no matter how hard he was, he would never be able to train his joints.

He activated his Invisible Slash from point blank, targeting only his joints. However that man noticed Kouki’s aim and moved his right hand to cover his joints and at the same time it became a counter to Kouki’s chin.

Kouki crashed into the wall and collapsed like a ragdoll.

"...shit, did he die? He received my right counter at that kind of speed after all... But still, he might be what I’m looking for. ...what a shame..."

The man looked down at Kouki, who was no longer moving, and muttered.

"...there’s no use regretting it now. ...Well then, I guess it's time to go. I wanted to exercise a bit after such a long time so I even purposely gave them the tip. But if the NDF is not even here, I can’t even warm up properly. ...there’s a regretful encounter though."

The man released the black wall that covered the whole room.

The man’s ability is called “Lonsdaleite”.

It’s a material-type gift ranked at S+.

It is able to change one’s body into a lonsdaleite which is said to be harder than diamond and with higher mastery of the gift, it is possible to manifest lonsdaleite not only on one’s body, but also externally.

A light shone through the ceiling. This is the instantaneous transfer gift. If you enter the circle of light, you can instantly move to any location.

Kiryu once again looked regretfully at Kouki’s corpse.

Kiryu picked up Kouki and walked into the circle of light.
