Chapter 3 : The Unlucky Man

Lunchtime.

Mizutani Fuuka is currently swarmed by girls who are eager to share an early lunch with her.

As he gazed at such a scene with a little envy, Takahiko called out to him when he was about to get up and head for the cafeteria.

“Oi, Kouki. You seem to know Mizutani-san, what kind of relationship do you have with her?”

Kouki had nothing to hide, so he told him what had happened this morning.

“I see. I see. It’s that Hiro’s needless flirting again.”

“Rather than flirting, he is just a natural airhead at it. Well, since there are girls who actually fell for him, it’s basically the same as flirting though... I hope he gets kicked by a horse.”

“That's right. A good looking guy who doesn't know he's good looking is distasteful. Well, you're one of them too though.”

“Me? Keep the jokes to your face, please.”

“You probably never realize it but you're pretty popular, you know?”

When he heard those words, Kouki's heart felt like it jumped in his chest.

“A-are you sure? W-who is it! Who the hell would be ok with me?”

“Uhm, Watanabe, Ookubo, Kondou...there are others but it seems that these three are planning to confess to you.”

Takahiko's information probably isn't a lie but with over 300 students in the grade, Kouki wasn’t able to even remember hearing any of the names before. But Kouki couldn't help but be excited by this new revelation.

Just so you don't get the wrong idea, Kouki's appearance is not bad. But since he is surrounded by the genuinely handsome Hiro and Takahiko too if he keeps his mouth shut, Kouki himself is skeptical when he hears that he is suddenly popular.

“I'm popular? That's a lie~! You must be a lying~!”

Despite his words, he couldn't hide the joy on his face.

“So you never noticed. I’m telling you that you've always been pretty popular, okay?”

"Since long ago? ...Then why have I never been confessed to before? I'm not proud of it, but I've never experienced being confessed before.”

“....it’s Yoshida Narumi.”

Just from hearing that name, Kouki’s face turned blue.

Yoshida Narumi was his classmate from junior high school, and Kouki had heard rumors that Yoshida liked him. But he had never spoken to her directly. Although he didn’t, he knew Yoshida because she was a famous person.

“It’s because all the girls who ever said they liked you were pressed down by Yoshida.”

“Wha...what the hell?”

Yoshida Narumi. She is also known as the Strongest Female Primate.

In junior high school, she won the women's wrestling national championship in the indiscriminate category.

She was even introduced on TV as the strongest junior high school girl, but she was almost a gorilla in appearance.

Incidentally, public sports competitions are divided into the gifted division and the non-gifted division. And Yoshida is the champion of that gifted division.

That Yoshida is in group A. She is also a talented gifted person.

“...that must be a lie. Why would she want me…”

“According to the information I got, apparently it's love at first sight. She has liked you since the first year of junior high school, but she was too embarrassed to talk to you. So, she decided to at least crush all the girls who liked you.”

“Eh? But what about the three girls you mentioned earlier? Is Yoshida not eyeing on them?”

“What's with them? Don’t tell me?!”

“That's right. The four of them are about to start a tournament to determine the strongest high school girl. Of course, the prize for winning is......you!”

Takahiko pointed his finger at Kouki.

“I'm the prize? Where’s my right to say no!?”

“In case you're wondering, Watanabe, Okubo and Kondo are all rugged looking. They're all very muscular.”

“Bullshit! At least give me a girl?!”

“What are you talking about? They're biologically female.”

“No, no, no! I don't want a girlfriend that can only be classified as female biologically!”

In his desperation, Kouki escaped out of the classroom.

He ran through the hallway without thinking where to go.

(What the hell. I'm honestly happy that I was popular but I can't believe it was obstructed by Yoshida! And on top of that, Yoshida and the rest of the monstrously strong girls are aiming for me? If this is a dream, please wake up!)

When Yoshida appeared on TV as the strongest junior high school girl, Kouki, who happened to be watching the show, he was horrified by her. That Yoshida had tackled an active sumo wrestler (gifted) on the show, and that active sumo wrestler actually lost.

(That kind of thing...I will be eaten for sure!)

The next thing he knew, he was sitting on a bench in the courtyard, with his head hanging down. Since it was lunchtime, a good number of students were seen having lunch there.

“Is it fine if I take the seat besides you?”

When Kouki lifted his drooping head at the sudden voice, he found Mizutani Fuuka standing in front of him.

“Huh? Why ...... no, oh, please do…”

“Then excuse me.”

They had been sitting next to each other in the class earlier but now they were both sitting on the same bench. Kouki’s heart beats even faster in this situation.

“Uhm... are you not having your lunch with the others?”

“Yes. Actually I'm quite shy. So I somehow managed to escape them.”

“Eh? Then isn’t it hard with me too?”

“I met Suou-kun in the morning, didn't I?”

“That's it?”

“We are seated next to each other anyway. I also felt like I’ll be fine with Suou-kun, you also seem easy to talk to. Am I, bothering you?”

Kouki shakes his head so much he surprised himself.

(If you say something like that, I'll fall in love with you--! ...is not something that will happen but it's not a bad feeling to be needed for something so trivial…)

“I'm glad to hear that. Suou-kun, what about your lunch?”

Kouki finally noticed after being asked. He hadn’t bought any lunch because dashed away without stopping by the cafeteria or the shops.

“If you are fine with it, will you have half of my lunch?”

“Eh? Is that okay?”

“Yes. It's homemade so I'm not that confident about it but please do if you don't mind.”

A girl's homemade bento. Something that any healthy high school boy would love to have. And not to mention handmade by the beautiful Mizutani.

“W-well, I guess I'll take it~…”

Although it’s embarrassing, his desire surpassed his embarrassment. Kouki had a silly expression on his face but the person himself doesn’t realize it.

As Mizutani Fuuka is a girl, her lunch box is not very large. It consisted of a healthy portion of five types grain rice, along with the side dishes of wrapped egg rolls, fried chicken breast meats, roasted green beans, and small cherry tomatoes sprinkled with a little salt.

“Yeah, it's delicious!”

I took a bite of one of the egg rolls, and was pleasantly surprised by the subtle flavor of the broth.

“I’m glad! Please eat more!”

It was originally made for Mizutani herself so if Kouki ate it without hesitation, it would be gone in a flash. As expected she would be disgusted if he does so, hence he hesitated...

“Ah, don't worry about it, you can eat it all. I'm not really hungry.”

Mizutani stuck out her tongue, and Kouki was completely knocked out by that expression.

Was there ever a girl who had been so kind to him before? No, there was not. But then again, if what Takahiko said earlier is true, then the reason I’ve never been with other females is due to the interference of Yoshida, the Strongest Female Primate.

The moment he thought about it, the situation he is in right now...no, the situation Mizutani is in right now is very bad...but it’s already too late.

“...you bitch. Do you know who you are flirting with?”

A huge shadow covers the two of them. Four gorillas stood in a line in front of them.
