Hey everyone! We're back to Rapture once again to visit the Queen.
As I said last week, this quickly became one of my favorite Elizabeth renders that I've done. The pose, camera, light and environment; everything worked really well together. It's a pretty dark scene, so there's not much to see, but I made an effort to make the environment as good as I could. There are a lot of small details in this scene, both on Elizabeth and as part of the environment, so yeah, this one is zoom-in worthy.
Now, about Mercy's animation. This animation has been a challenge I've been dealing with for the last weeks. I've been increasing my standards more and more with each render, and for a character like Mercy, whose models are a bit outdated, finding a combination of camera angle/position is often a challenge. I've gone through a LOT of references over the last few weeks, trying to find the perfect match for a new scene. I didn't want to make something generic.
This Mercy model, which has always been my go-to for animations, is great for being light and flexible. The main problem is that some of its proportions become really weird in certain positions. That brings the need to adjust it with a lot of sculping, which I'm not that great with. The previews that you're seeing were made after a few hours of fixing oversized shoulders, weird legs and crooked arms.
About the pose, I can't say I'm entirely happy with it. As I've said, I've gone through a LOT of references, and I kept trying and giving up on ideas. I had a least 8 different versions of this file in mind. But, I feel like this is one of main obstacles when it comes to doing new art: I quickly give up on ideas that I don't immediately like. I don't want to waste time on something that I already know I won't feel happy about. That is good, and also bad. A lot of times, I throw away ideas that could've been improved if given enough time and work. I feel like this has been happening a lot with this Mercy animation, so once I got to this particular scene, I decided I'd just work on it no matter what. And that's what I'm doing. I'll probably change a few things about the pose, but the general idea is settled: a Doctor Ziegler scene.
And yeah, I gave up on the Witch Mercy idea. I'm still doing Mercy for Halloween, though not as a witch this time...
As usual, early access for this week's set will be available on Wednesday. Thank you all for your continued support!
All characters seen in my work are fictional and consenting adults over the age of 18.
