Door Explosion from the last HL1 video [Behind The Scenes]

This part was almost entirely animated in Gmod! On the edit I just added some green glowing on the top of the dust. And this footage is a bit older, because next day I also added green lamp blinking inside of the room.

Anyway by hands I animated only the door of course, some little metal parts, this painting on the wall, and the Zombie (only his path, because the zombie was on walk cycle). You can also see on the GIF that I used Pyro's particle and the dust from HL2 Ep2 to add a bit more of the chaos. And the funniest part - I used the door from Half-Life Episode 2, which is by the default have animation called "Bust". On this GIF you can see how it looks like! A lot of beautiful little pieces of the door I'd hate to animate by myself.

This room looks much different than Hector's. At the right you can also see some debris I animated

This animation was possible because of the new Stop Motion Helper's feature: I can bind some buttons and console commands right to the SMH timeline. For example, on the Frames 3-4 it's automatically pressing "Num 8" and later "Num 9" for the Pyro's Air and Dust particles, on the Frame 5 it's starting the "Bust" animation for the door, and on the Frame 8 it's unpressing "Num 9" and "Num 8" buttons.

The "Dog waking up" Scene from HL1 Ep5 video was made the same way. I used console commands bound to the SMH timeline to start Dog's animations on the frames I need.

To record Smoke, Particles and other stuff I also used one trick. There was always a "host_timescale" command in console! 1 is the default value. I put it somewhere to 0.3, just to slow down the entire game except of the SMH. So when I record animation - everything is moving very slow, even the particles, but SMH is making screenshots very fast, so as the result, I can say, this animation was made entirely with screenshots, so it counts as the Stop Motion animation :D

Some random stuff at the background

Hector's room! You can see the Greenscreen I prepared for the scene to make a "Defocus Blur" effect. You can also see those floating fog glowing things - I always using them since the "10000 Years of Evolution" video, to add some depth effect, and make a better picture.

And a little bonus:

I'm already making my new TF2 random video! I'm a bit stuck right at the beginning, but I'll find the way out :)

I hope you enjoyed this little Behind The Scene post C:

Comments

Hmm Most of the time it's just "Smallineer", "Vomit Heavy" or "Spaps" But this Medic's name might have been something like, I dunno... Doctor Wilfred?

Do you ever give names to your characters? I really want to know what that medic's name is.
