We’re beyond excited to announce an open pitch call for our inaugural issue. For VACANZA Volume 1, we’re bringing our editorial ethos to life with Play Harder: a volume dedicated to the act of partying, one that views in-person celebration as a catalyst for unforgettable travel. We’re examining the radical joy that comes with traveling the world for extraordinary IRL gatherings. We’re looking for pitches on parties, gatherings, celebrations, raves, and mass-meetings that bring together large swaths of people from around the world—if there’s a function worth traveling for, please write to us about it.
Vacanza publishes a wide-range of experimental travel stories, but we’ve got particular needs for this first issue: We’re accepting pitches for two features on massive, regularly-occurring parties around the globe, with a special interest in parties that people typically travel for; essays on the power of partying from the braintrusts behind celebrations in places where joy is actively being suppressed; tell-alls from the braintrusts behind the world’s biggest parties; photo essays focused on transformative gatherings; 150-word blurbs about the most interesting parties (and party spaces) around the globe for our issue’s BUCKET LIST PARTIES package; and portfolios from visual artists looking to showcase their work alongside our stories.
Selected submissions will feature an interesting, internationally-engaging party or mass-gathering that tells a unique story about an area’s history or culture, with a compelling travel angle. We’re especially excited about stories that focus on parties or gatherings that celebrate underrepresented communities around the world. Think:
Detty December in Accra and the joyful theme of “return” it represents for people across the African diaspora.
Viennese balls that bring international partiers close to the storied traditions of the city.
How the Puerto Rican Friendly Day parade in the Greater Cleveland area tells the story of Latinx resistance in the American midwest.
Hotels around the world hosting unforgettable or elaborate parties for their on-property guests.
Interviews with the organizers of the Jane Austen-themed Grand Regency Costumed Promenade in Bath, England.
What gathering means to the owners of top queer party venues in El Paso, Texas.
Lush photo essays showcasing the beauty of Indigenous PowWows across the United States.
We want submissions that think BIG, see the playful spirit in complex issues, and above all else, emphasize the joy of traveling for in-person connection.
Our submission window for written content will close at 11:59 p.m. PT on December 10th, 2025 while our visual pitch submission window will close at 11:59 p.m. PT on December 15th, 2025, but we encourage all contributors to submit pitches earlier if possible.
