Listening Party: BLACKPINK 'DEADLINE' EP

The fact that they went on the Deadline Tour before the Deadline album always makes me sigh and it does show poor planning on YG's behalf. Yes the girls are busy and at different labels but if they had finalised the track list, the girls could come in and just record which I don't think would have taken that long. It just seems like they thought of the tour first and when everyone said 'where's the album?', they remembered they had an album to make as well >.<

2026-03-13 01:52:08 +0000 UTCYour whole speech about them not being under YG but YG taking care of the group’s activity is literally the reason why I don’t like this current trend of “An idol/idols left the label but they are still in the group”… It just makes things complicated. As someone who did not vibe with Jump, I have to admit hearing it before Go works better back to back. I would even say they planned to release the EP sooner after Jump, but schedule-wise it took them too much time, which goes back to what I have just said… I had zero expectations from this comeback and I am surprised I like Go a lot. Although I still think previous title tracks like SHUT DOWN hit WAY DIFFERENT!! Out of those 3 b-sides Champion is my favorite one. The rest is cool, but so far I came back to Go and then immediately played Champion and time to time I start with Jump and continuing with Go and Champion. Therefore… despite me liking Jump now more, it is not like I need it to be released and so I can imagine Go being a title track for a single album with Champion as the one b-side. Or have it as back in the day, double title track Jump & Go and Champion as a “bonus b-side”. Like… if you don’t have the time, just keep it short and simple and release a proper piece of discography, when everything is ready… Yang Hun Suk recently mentioned he is aware YG Ent celebrated 30 years, BIGBANG is going to celebrate 20 years and BLACKPINK 10 years, so that makes me wonder if they have something for us for the 10th anniversary. But nothing has been mentioned in comparison to plans with BIGBANG and rest of YG acts, so I don’t know… I mention this all the time, I wish Teddy took BLACKPINK to The Black Label with them. Rosé got 100% control over Rosie. Jisoo’s music could have been released under The Black Label too (to be fair her music is the most “company neutral” to me, like it did not really matter if she launched her own label for that or not). In Lisa’s case it would have benefit her for sure, since she needed someone to handle its vision for the album of so many ideas but none of them living up to its potential. Jennie’s Ruby is the only one, which makes sense to me the most that she did not want to “risk it” (it to be released under a different label than her own), but it would have worked under The Black Label too. And with all of that said, BLACKPINK as a group would have benefit being under The Black Label for sure

2026-03-12 16:17:19 +0000 UTCchampion needs an entirely new lyricist and add like one producer to fix the choruses, the verses are fun and the last third almost redeems the song but again, the chorus is so forgettable and leaves no impact. fxxxboy has a huge disconnect between the instrumental and the much more energetic top line. wayyyy too empty an instrumental for bp. the lyrics are very taylor swift. me and my needs like 3 more producers to fish something interesting out of whatever that was and new lyrics too. hate how it's so english.

2026-03-12 16:14:46 +0000 UTCthe way coldplay is able to claim their generic ass melodies as their own is astounding to me

2026-03-12 10:36:05 +0000 UTCFor jump that part that you’re talking about reminds me of “feel this moment” Christina A+Pitbull. It kinda reminds me of the of the “one day when the night is glowing” part

2026-03-12 08:48:39 +0000 UTCwith how big all the girls went on their solos, this comeback should’ve been a full album with them coming back with a full BANG, although all the girls delivered, i do feel like it gives you a bittersweet ending as it could’ve been soooo much more! rumour has it they’re gonna release another album this year though so fingers crossed!!

2026-03-12 05:58:57 +0000 UTCthe melody for the GO bridge samples coldplay’s viva la vida. chris martin is credited as a composer on this song too! start a war and APT pre chorus use this similar melody it’s very popular in pop music

2026-03-12 03:45:50 +0000 UTCIm mixed on how I feel. I think that while GO is 'good', because its Blackpink, it still didnt deliver what Ive been wanting from BP, ESPECIALLY after the amazing solo runs. I do appreciate that they did something different, but Im still left wanting more. Im even more disappointed in the b-sides. I get the impression that they just did this album out of obligation not because it was something they felt strongly about. Its missing the artistry I would expect from a tenured group especially after eeing what they put into their solo releases. I agree that the lackluster aspects of this album doesnt fall solely onto the girls. There is a lot of pressure regardless but its definitely a label issue. Album needed more songs, more substance, more depth. Probably going to be an unpopular take here but Im saying this as someone who had been a fan of BP since 2019ish and someone who wants them to succeed and be the best version of themselves as a group like theyve shown us as solo artists.
