The typical range is between $300β500, and an average story is about $400. (This is the budget Iβm inheriting at the moment, so Iβm hoping to find ways to boost these rates in the coming months.)
The stories weβre typically looking for are βmini-featuresβ around 800β1500 words (1000 words as the ideal target), with about 2β5 sources. Most of these stories wouldnβt be tied too strongly to the news cycle and have more of an evergreen life, so the turnaround from pitch to first draft is usually a couple weeks or so. But we do look for writers who are able to turn things around quickly when itβs needed, and I try my best to offer rates that are higher than normal when this is the situation.
