There's a new version of DecentSampler and the Omnichord Sample Library has been updated!

Hi All,

You may have gotten a notification a few minutes ago about an update to the old Omnichord sample library. I'm not sure what Patreon notifications look like when they go out, so I thought I would explain it in more detail here.

When I made the Omnichord sample library, I did it by sampling every distinct note that the Omnichord "strum strings" can produce and then laying them out just like on a piano keyboard. At the outset, this seemed like the best way of presenting those sounds as sample library, especially given what was possible with DecentSampler at the time. Of course, the Omnichord is famous for its strummed chord sounds, and the more I've used my sample library, the more I've wished the experience of using it could be a bit closer to what I feel when I use the actual instrument. So...

I decided to do some coding. I spent much of last week adding a back-end feature to DecentSampler: note sequences. Basically, it's now possible for sample creators to embed little sequences of notes into their sample libraries. In this case, the sequences I've embedded into the sample library are chord strums.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: there's a new version of the DecentSampler plugin and the Omnichord sample library has been updated so that you can now play the major, minor, 7th chords just like you can on the instrument itself. You can turn the new "strum" functionality on and off, so if you'd rather have the old version of things, just go to the strum tab and uncheck the "enabled" checkbox.

Definitely let me know if you find any bugs. This feature is very much in its infancy, and I'm sure there will be some glitches along the way.

All the best,
Dave

Ah, that's odd. Maybe it hasn't updated? If you go to File > About... does it show the version as 1.11.1. That's the latest version.

The chords don’t seem to be working for iPhone? I’m not sure if that’s just on my end tho

the colors on the on-screen piano seem to wait to update until the key has been pressed after changing between strums enabled and disabled, not sure if bug but it’s kinda fun
