[JttQ BONUS EP] Pepper - Listen

This one doesn't have a content warning but it DOES have an Itty Bitty Pepper

BABY PEPPER. she's too smol. she can't see in the window. itty bitty.

We wanted to explore Pepper's bardic origins while also setting up a bit of her character motivations for the next season! I think it's easy to overlook how a bard becomes a bard or what unlocks their appreciation for music. For me anyway, I sort of see the school choir as Pepper's quiet goal: community, beauty and stability. There's not a whole lot to really say that isn't just "here's how you should interpret this", since it kinda speaks for itself!

This short was the easiest to animate of the bonus episodes so far! It was the sound design that provided the biggest challenge. I did a lot of searching for royalty free children's choirs before I realized 1. not happening and 2. I feel like I'm gonna get put on some kind of list if I don't give up searching this particular thing. So, I buckled up and di the damn thing myself.

If you're wondering what the significance of the songs were, the answer is: they're the only public domain songs Jay knew the harmonies to in the moment. Can you tell I was a church choir kid.

I love seeing scrappy little Pepper grow up to be who she is now: dumb as rocks, and full of life and love. Certainly the most optimistic by far!

After this one, I think we've only got one more backstory OVA planned. Ya boy (me, Jay) will hopefully be taking a wrist break before we launch into Season 4. Speaking of, stay tuned for when we announce that!
