Hey, so, 2023 was a rough year in between serious health limitations, getting WAIFU DEATH SQUAD (still a code name) funded and in development (we have one sequence of the game left to write and the main plot is done. it's almost as long as Game of Thrones).

I wish I could tell you that I'm doing okay, but I'm not. CPTSD is a difficult thing to deal with at the best of times, and having to go it entirely alone is extremely difficult. The grieving process is profoundly challenging on its own.

Despite the difficulty, I wrote... looks like 14 pieces last year, though 2 were short stories and 1 was an article about my other hobby, rockets. In February last year, I wrote a piece about Hogwarts Legacy. I feel that saying "don't be transphobic" is just a thing people should say, so I don't feel comfortable counting that among the Patreon-supported essays. I don't want to profit off the suffering of my friends. That just feels wrong.

I'm telling you this because it means that I wrote 10 'officially' patreon-supported pieces last year. If you feel this is insufficient for the amount of writing that you were expecting in 2023, then I'm sorry. I hope you understand.

This past month, I also wrote this year's review of last year's games. 39 reviews, ~17,000 words.

I realize my work is kind of short compared to the big youtubers--I have friends who write multi-hour scripts. Those can get into the 50k or more script range. I know when you see it in text, sometimes it seems like the writing's a lot, but I'm a relative lightweight. I know my output is faster and more regular than a lot of people's, but I still wish I could do better with it.

I want to transpose some of my essays into videos. I've talked about this before, and I've got the script done for some of the stuff and a bunch of footage recorded. Just got super hectic with this latest Waifu Death Squad milestone, so I had to delay it from the initially planned Christmas release. That was an optimistic estimate.

Some of these essays are easy, others are harder. I probably won't convert the 'indie bundle cruft death match' articles into videos, but I may start doing new ones as videos, because digging up and reinstalling all those random games to capture footage is just... a lot of work that no one will really care about me doing.

So I have about fifty articles to turn into videos. Your support is making that--and these further essays--happen.

Thank you very much for your support. I am doing my best to be worth it. Please look forward to articles about everything from God Eater to Yakuza in the coming year. Thank you. I couldn't do this without you.

My essays are nothing if they are not helpful, so I do everything I can to make them as helpful as can be. I hope I can write some amazing pieces in the coming year. Thank you for your continued support.

You are worth it. You were and you are and you have proven yourself incapable of failing to be worth it every time you have insisted on measuring. Maybe you can't take that to heart easily, but I don't mind repeating myself until it eventually osmoses through.
