I found nothing to complain about, myself. I was excited to learn of Hu Qing returning in a month or two. I also appreciate the many characters mentioned and the political landscape being made clearer. I had completely forgotten all about the poor Empress An, oops. It has been a boon to hear Lord Cui go over all these notables, as events grow weightier when I have an understanding of the various interest groups and camps. The decision to induce a two month premature birth is very dramatic and frightening. Understandable and respectable, but if it were me (in Wenyuan's shoes, or the author's), I simply would not find the determination to go through with it. I would maybe stage a difficult birth and have Ashina "in intensive care" for a couple months, in utter isolation with the healers, trying to survive and recover well from her first childbirth, and when so young! Poor dear! A sigh of relief that the court managed to get something done for once, and the reforms going well and speedily made me happy haha I do miss Yunqi, I hope he and Wenyuan can be partners again and speak often and plan together. Wenyuan is fearful of losing his position to that strategist dude, or Xianchun, but he should relax. The more he is jealous of his power and influence, the more he grows unworthy of it. He shouldn't lose favour with Yunqi until he does something *bad*. Just being overly competent or popular, while a threat, should be acceptable to Yunqi so long as it's Wenyuan. They really do like and care for each other like cousins, though sometimes they forget.

The chapter at the beginning does feel like a filler especially the conversation among the retainers. I'm not sure what that brings to the story. And maybe the results about the reforms could be told in a better way, like in the form of a scene of lower officials in the ports doing their work, conversing with each other or something. But, the other part was fine.
