2024-04-11 10:57:31 +0000 UTCThat angle is definitely a serious concern, there have been examples of generals who surrendered or went over to foreign kingdoms, where the ruler usually doled out titles and arranged for their marriage to local women of notable families in order to tie down valuable resources with military intelligence on a neighboring country.

I feel there are many potential angles to endearing a local general to the army of a tenuous ally. I’d expect the biggest risk to be betrayal on General Yan’s part. I need to read up on implanted foreign generals. The closest example I’m aware of is Lafayette. I feel sorry for Hu Qing. He’s the exact kind of person who’d slack off in recognition of the fact that the reward for hard work is more hard work. Unfortunately, he’s found someone he’s weak to.
