Chapter 113-The Red Towers Crumble

Last chapter of Book 1! Thank you so much for all your support, and I'll be back with [irregular] updates to Book 2. For details, please see the end note at the bottom of the document.

In Book 2, the prostitute Yan'er, the members of the Imperial Investigation Bureau, and Feng Yi will be taking more important roles as new conflicts emerge in the aftermath of the Grand Duke's death.

So it's treason then. Wei Guang is obviously up to something more then he's letting on, and I don't think Kuang is going to like the end result of whatever he is cooking up. Xianchun is going to be after Kuang's head, literally, after this one. Xianchun values his view of honor above all else and there is no way he's going to let this sort of thing slide. Not only did Kuang betray Kayla's trust but Xianchun surely knows that Kuang owes her several favors on top of that. Wei Guang is the one that intrigues me most, my hypothesis is that he doesn't want Kayla buddying up to Kuang and this is his way of forcing them apart. Wei Guang's deal with Kuang is going to end up going in Kayla's favor somehow and put Kuang in a bad position while ending that potential alliance. Wei Guang is loyal to the dynasty and the people first..and it's entirely possible that he thinks an especially bloody succession fight might be for the good of the dynasty.

Truly cruel to go on a kind of "Hiatus" on such an ending! :) Thanks for the chaper though! I'm really excited for book 2 and to see just what's all the things the "Palace" will accuse Wenyuan of, I mean technicaly he did NOT commit any crime I think right? So perhaps they choose to take the GD deaths and crimes asreason to strip Kayla from Power? Or something entirely different is about to happen! It's also strange to me why the third Prince would go along with something like this, I thought he valued honor nd depts quite highly and as far as I understood he did see himself and his brother (so basically his faction) as indebted to Kayla, then why would he agree with Wei Guand to "serve Wenyuan up like this"? Again unless there is another layer to everything and this won't actually be "bad" for Kayla! :)
