State of development, Adventure Module Poll!
Added 2020-05-01 21:45:56 +0000 UTCHi everyone! I hope everyone is well, and in good health, that you and your families are going through this difficult times in the best possible way!
I just wanted to update everyone about the current state of development in general and the extension in particular, and to get your opinion about the latest feature I am currently working on: Importing Adventure Modules from D&D Beyond.
In parallel to fixing bugs and working with MrPrimate, a fellow community user who contributes great improvements into the character import logic I tackled the issue Google saw when reviewing the first update of the Chrome extension: I don't have much to work with, but the update was rejected with "Unnecessary permission requested".
This is quite a bummer since it was a functional update and the permission I requested did not change in comparision to the original submission to the Webstore, but anyway: I changed the way the extension works quite extensively and I think I do have found a good compromise between working on Google's requirements and having a somewhat good user experience: You now need to actively load the script part into your Foundry installation, this was detected automatically before. I am not very satisfied with that because it looses the connection on every reload of the Foundry tab, but I am not sure if I can really work around that somehow.
While doing general reworks on the extension, I cleaned up the code and I prepared for adding the functionality to import Adventure Modules directly from D&D Beyond. What began with a pointer to the most gruesome table I ever encountered kindled my ambition to create Rollable Tables from beast like that one (for the curious kind: It's the Wilderness Encounters table from ToA), and after five hours of wrestling, I can now parse any rolltable there is. Theoretically, because you will prove me wrong ;) One thing lead to another and while I only wanted to add something I call "Impersonation rolls" to the monster rolls (more on that later), you will probably receive adventure module import in the next version - super cool!
That's a smooth transition to this month's first poll: I tried several techniques to automatically detect walls, resolutions, GM notes etc, and nothing ended up in a satisfactory result, manual correction was always necessary to various extend. So right now I will be following a path that will result in manual labor for me, but in a high quality result for you: Adding all that stuff by hand: Basic walling and lighting and (in a step that is currently only existing in my head, so no guarantees here) referencing JournalEntries you imported to the map, too. This will take time, so let's vote: Which modules should get this special treatment first?
You can vote for as many modules you want (I do have the choice for unlimited or for just one answer, and one seems too restrictive), but please do not vote for all modules, but restrict yourself for 1-3 options, thanks!
User contributions are welcome! If you happen to have scenes setup already, based on the full-screen maps (Player Versions), you can export those easily and send them over - that would be awesome, too
Stay lovely,
Sebastian
