Bonus Chapter: Door Number 2

-- Bonus Chapter --

Door Number 2 is a Rogue bonus chapter that takes place after Chapter 126 (Arc 8 - Ch 18: Helicarrier). It also contains a minor crossover with Star Jumper.

This chapter will be released for all Patron tiers on Halloween. But if, for some reason, you absolutely need to read the story chronologically and need to know what's behind Door Number 2 right now, you can read this one early. I'll say it again, This chapter will be released for all Patron tiers on Halloween.

Author's Note: I usually don't do pre-chapter author's notes, but I do give warnings in rare cases when appropriate. This entire chapter is Out of Context and is completely skippable if you're not interested. It revolves around Jumpchain and Jumpchain mechanics. If you don't know what that is or don't care, and aren't interested in the hidden LitRPG or CYOA aspects of this story, and Rogue's connections to my other stories, please skip this chapter, as it is immersion-breaking.

-- Bonus Chapter --

This chapter will not be available for public readers until the conclusion of the Rogue story.

Thank you for the chapter. Seeing all the Perks and the thought process for the choices was nice to see.

First, thanks for reading and supporting, glad you enjoy the stuff I put out. As for the meat of your comment... This is really good feedback. Unfortunately, one of the downsides of my writing and my schedule is that I don't have any editors or beta readers to tell me when the tone of a chapter is 'off'. In this case, your feedback made me realize that I focused too much on the 'quest' and not enough on the 'reward'. And that I also fell short a little on the explanations. I'm going to go back and do some edits and add a few paragraphs of explanation, because I did leave out one of the most important parts. The Spark. It's not super-well defined, but when the Jumper completes the End Jump, they earn their Spark, which allows them to travel the Multiverse without the aid of a benefactor. Essentially, upon chain completion, Tyson would regain and be able to revisit every setting, regain everything he earned, and revisit everyone left behind. Reflecting on the chapter, I did give the impression that at the 10 year mark, Tyson is just going to poof into another world and that it doesn't have meaning. In most jumpchains, that is the case, but not here. That's not how Rogue will end, or any of the stories really. Allow me to try to explain the intent here. From a storytelling perspective: The downside of Jumpchain is that it's easy. Since you've read Meteor Freak and Rogue, I'll just stick with them for an example. If Tyson from the end of Meteor Freak S1 had appeared at the start of Rogue, it would have trivialized the story instantly. Having Kara as a Companion, his powerset, basically anything. This would work similarly vice versa. Although Meteor Freak is meant to be a more 'fun' story, and Rogue has a bit more serious tone, if following standard jumpchain mechanics, there isn't any story to tell. Tyson just wins. From an author's perspective: A traditional jumpchain where everything carries over requires a certain linearity. A jump happens, you get whatever, and you move on to the next one. Because I write my stories concurrently, I'd need to plan ahead for what Tyson would get in story 1, so that it could appear in story 2. This creates several problems. Whatever I wrote into story 2, I'd be locked into making happen in story 1. This creates not only spoilers, but it also railroads the plot and limits what I can creatively do. Additionally, it creates a powerscaling nightmare as mentioned in the storytelling perspective. The alternate take is that Tyson does see his Companions as people because they're the only true connections he has. Tyson doesn't pick his Companions; the Companions pick him. Meteor Freak has several Companions listed because they came free with the document, but I'd consider Kara his only true Companion... and she's not on the list because she chose him organically. I'm not going to delve into that much further because the true challenge now, is for me to find a way to emphasize that within the chapter. One of the hardest parts of writing is that I have this idea in my head of what I want to portray, and I need to make it come out that way on the page. And I think in this case, I just failed. It seems you took from this one, "I see, so what's the point?" When I wanted you to take, "I see how this happened. Now, where does this go?" Because in the end (if executed correctly) the conclusion of Rogue is satisfying from an in-story/in-universe/character perspective, but also from a meta perspective. I'm going to sit down and edit this chapter further to try to adjust the tone towards its intended goal.

You know, I've read most of your stories, and decided to catch up on rogue replacement on your patreon, and snagged this chapter..... I like rogue replacement and I caught your jump chain listing in meteor freak and the stuff with q in star jumper(not for me) But....... Essentially this is all just a great big video game, None of these people or these actions mean anything, Their creating one off pocket realities for him to play with just to see what happens...... And that...... unfortunately I don't think is for me..... He leaves that reality, they close it down im assuming afterwards and..... He just moves on, decades, centuries of life spent, only for that place to stop existing later, because why would they keep elden ring on in the background when hes moving to a new game... Gotta say.... I made a mistake buying this because this just kinda kills my whole enjoyment of your storylines. And from what I can tell none of his companions have traveled between any of the stories.... So just kinda reinforces that he doesnt really see them as people either once he leaves.
