Bolt valves and double cams

have you though about adjusting the intake cam lobe profie? holding the inlet valve open for the full down stroke rather than just a short burst? id imagine it could gain a significant improvement in torque.. also.. without the element of heat expansion... would valve overlap be a factor?

Before you totally give up on the poppet valve concept, it might be good to look at some COTS miniature valves for reference. For example I have used this style [ http://theleeco.com/electro-fluidic-systems/solenoid-valves/lhq/3-port-quiet-operation-plug-in-solenoid-valves.cfm ] at work in the past, and they use a stainless steel armature shaft but they use a PPA head and also specify the gasket material and sealing lubricant. I wonder if those work together to overcome the alignment problem, or if they are just designed for noise mitigation. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Having done mechanical engineering and two thesis on reciprocating internal combustion engines the similarities in design and challenges you face just keep cropping up. It's really fun, thoroughly enjoy it :) for my two cents I think a Q&A would be fun. I have so many questions, or should I say, potentially interesting points of discussion about engine design.

Great explanation, Tom, thank you!
