Tier Changes + Other Info
Added 2022-05-16 14:42:46 +0000 UTCHi, everyone! Thank you for your support so far!
This post contains important information for everyone in the Requester and Requester Deluxe tiers, but it might also contain useful info for other patrons as well, which is why everyone can see this post.
There are a few major changes regarding the the first two requester tiers (8$, 16$).
I am planning to reduce the option to request a full video every two or three months to one video every six months, while adding new options and new rewards.
This is a decision that is based on the fact that there have been instances of a few people requesting songs that the requesters had no real use for, songs of rather unknown games, songs they requested simply because they can and because they spontaneously thought it would be fun to make someone make a piano version of it, and then not even fully listening to it when it's finished. This doesn’t apply to everyone at all, but just by happening once or twice in very specific instances, it made me think about this a bit.
The main purpose of being able to request songs on Patreon is for me to give patrons a piano version of a song they always wanted on piano, while also giving an option to finance my videos and make them possible. A lot of people don't know that the upper half of the video is based on a relatively expensive monthly subscription that would not be possible without Patreon. Same goes for the free sheet music.
Making videos is a process that takes a lot of work, and what people forget is that making videos is not just about transcribing, arranging, practicing, and recording, but because of the upper half of the video I also have to manually edit every single note I played afterwards, which is a very, very tedious process that takes 8-10 hours per video, and it might be better to use that time for songs that make more people happy, especially when I not only lose viewers for doing all that work due to the unpopularity of the song, but also if the person who requested it has no actual use for it.
I should also mention that I do not make these requests for views, but to make the person who requested it happy and give them something they couldn't get elsewhere for such a low price, no matter if the request forces other people to unsubscribe. I am, without any exceptions, always very glad to make a whole video for one person if I know it makes that person happy, but this isn’t always the case.
Therefore I will reduce the amount of possible requests to one every six months. This way, it will be easier to choose songs you really, really want, and also remove the pressure to find a new song fast that I’ve noticed in some cases.
6 months is only a guideline, if you have two short songs that you would like to get covered fast or just in general a very strong interest in two songs in six months, I will try to do my best to realize this if I see you really want those songs.
The ability to request every two months stays possible for the highest tier, but that tier is also limited to accepting only one more person. Due to the high increment of the pledge I would also finish the request every two months, and not make the person wait longer than stated on Patreon due to the high amount of requests. This is also something that has been bugging me – the high amount of requests makes it necessary for people to wait longer than I promised, even when I upload a new video every single week. With this change, I will definitely be able to finish the requests in time without feeling bad for the video taking so long.
New rewards and changes
As a compensation for the request timeframe change, I will do two things: first, I will make exclusive polls on Patreon every month or two months that only people from the requester tiers have access to. I will give you several options of rather popular songs (yes, including Xenoblade) that you’ll be able to vote for, and the option that wins the poll will be covered next. For medleys, I will also make polls or posts here where patrons from the requester tiers have the ability to choose their favorite songs for that occasion, which was initially only planned for the previous medley. The first polls will start once the currently existing requests are finished.
At the same time, I will remove the 4-minute rule, and patrons of any requester tier will be able to request songs of any length. This way, we can make sure that you really get any song you really want. There are already several patrons where the 4-minute-rule has been lifted, in exchange for getting only one cover every 4-6 months. I'm now basically applying that procedure to all requesters.
Differences between tiers
The main difference between the first requester tier and the higher one is now that the first tier is based on requesting sheet music, and in some cases me making a full video for it if the song would make a lot of people happy. In the Requester Deluxe tier, you will always get a full video. The access to the HQ collection of all covers with some being completely remastered stays the same for all (https://www.patreon.com/posts/57689551) (access only from tier two or higher).
Request plan / New video
Even though about 80% of my recent videos are videos that patrons requested, I will still finish all remaining requests as fast as I can, but after that, I will only take requests that the requesters actually want.
This will be the order of the videos of the remaining 2-or-3-month-requests of all tiers after the DKC2 video that is currently being edited and will be uploaded in the next days:
------------
Blue Archive
Ys VIII
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Dark Souls 3
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Last Story
Xenosaga
Beatmania IIDX
-------------------
Even if you probably haven’t heard of all of the games listed above, all of the new requests are actually decent or even really good choices that will be worth your time. Chances are that other videos will also be coming inbetween, especially since a 36-page-long piano duo of a song all of you know is in the works.
If this new change isn’t something you wish to keep supporting, then I would understand if you decide to reduce or cancel the pledge. Still, I would like to massively thank all of you for supporting me so far, not only making the upper half of the video possible but also a clearly visible better equipment. Your support does not result in my personal gain but in me trying to improve my videos, because this channel means a lot to me, no matter how much the YouTube algorithm tries to hide my videos from new viewers, and I will keep using the pledges to make my videos better.
Thank you for everything so far! I will make another post soon publishing three of the private covers I made for some patrons (that consist of Synthesia videos without me playing), as a little bonus for all tiers, and as a thanks for staying with me so long. I wish you guys a great week!
