#13 - The Situation

That's a pretty melodramatic title right there.

So you might be wondering why I haven't uploaded a video yet this month. I think I should explain what I've been doing.

I started working on the Dark Souls 3 script immediately after I finished with Bloodborne. I had to play the game a lot, and over the first week of May I realized that I had made a mistake. Going from so much Bloodborne, and writing and talking about it, right into Dark Souls 3 had made me thoroughly sick of the series. I was getting annoyed and I could tell I wasn't being as fair about some things as I should be. So after getting close to about a terabyte of footage on my video drive, I decided that it was best to take a break, do something else, and then come back to it.

My plan was Uncharted 4 shortly after it released, with a brief look back at the previous games before it. I thought it would be cool if I did some sort of summary of the first three games so people who hadn't played them could watch them to catch-up on the series so they could play Uncharted 4. Or watch the video I would do on it.

So on the 6th I started playing Uncharted 1, then 2, and then 3. And by the time I was wrapping up, Uncharted 4 was out. Then I realized if I wrote a bunch of stuff criticizing the first games when Uncharted 4 fixes a lot of issues then I'd look like an idiot, so I should play Uncharted 4 now too since it's already out. Uncharted 4 ended up being a bit longer than I expected. I also realized that I needed to replay The Last of Us as well because that game is close to the series and...

The big thing is that I started writing my 'brief summary" of the first three games, and by the time I was done it was over 20,000 words. With The Last of Us it was pushed comfortably over 2 hours long. And that's not including Uncharted 4.

So to be melodramatic again--I'm a little fucked.

I'm going to work as much as I possibly can to get *something* out at least. And I know that a huge video is comparable to a bunch of smaller ones. But I'm starting to get worried I won't have anything finished in time. I don't want to rush. But I don't want to appear like I'm wasting time either. I'm confident that I can get the long summary done before June but I'm not sure about Uncharted 4. So I think I'll split that into its own video. If I miss May on that, it'll be very early next month. Then Dark Souls 3 right after it since I already have most of the footage that I need.

I hope that's acceptable. I might be fretting for nothing but having the patreon thing set up monthly means that I never, ever want to go a whole month without uploading at least one worthwhile video unless I have major hardware failure or something.

If anyone's curious the script ended up being so long because it's close to a chapter-by-chapter breakdown of the story and major gameplay sequences, with the occasional break to talk about how gameplay works in general. I repeat myself a little too much for my liking, but the games are similar so it was unavoidable. I'm hoping to trim a lot of it out in editing tomorrow.

TL;DR - I'm working a lot, I swear. The projects just got switched around and then became a lot bigger than I planned.
