New NJB: the Gym of Life

Hello Patreon supporters! My latest video is now up, about how walkable and bikeable cities are healthier, by providing cheap and easy exercise opportunities to everyone.

Direct link: https://youtu.be/KPUlgSRn6e0

I was on holiday with almost no Internet for the last two weeks, so my schedule is a bit delayed lately, but there are several new videos in the works for the next few weeks and months.

Thanks for your support & enjoy!

Yeah, sorry Raymond. That's a known side effect of the channel. 😒

Not Just Bikes

I have a bone to pick with you. I started watching your videos because of trains. I visited Liverpool and was amazed by how great the rail system was there. I wished we had it here, real Chilliwack, BC. Then we got watching your videos about bikes, especially Dutch bikes. We've a lot of Dutch here. First we are looking at ebikes that fufill a similar role. Suddenly we're riding for tea across town on those days we're just not feeling a big ride today. We're experiencing our city and cycling infrastructure in a new way (yay bike lane over TransCanada highway). We're looking at cars and car-related infrastructure and thinking what a waste it all is. You inspired us. You're to blame! (Thanks)

I kind of liked your first title "I don't exercise, my city does it for me" better. Gym of Life is a cool phrase, but you deal with it in the video, doesn't need to be the title. Just my 2c. Also, I was watching YouTube with my 80yr old cycling Dad last week and that title is what attracked him. I kind of doubt "the Gym of Life" would have. We both enjoyed it explained that way in the video. Also, "obesity" is kind of a pseudoscience term based on BMI, which is a tool for US insurance companies to make money, and is bad for our health overall. So I wish that term wasn't dropped into the video at all. Also the movie Super Size Me was pretty problematic (https://player.fm/series/maintenance-phase/super-size-me) I met this woman Marilyn Wand at Bikesummer '99 in SF, and she is both a bike activist and fat activist. We talked about a Critical Mass over the Bay Bridge lead by fatties called Blimps Over The Bay (Sadly, we never actually did that ride) Her book and zine were called FAT!SO? and were super awesome and ahead of the times. Overall I think your videos are super and saying complicated and important things so well, and calmly. That is why I signed up for Patreon, I want your voice to have more influence because we need this. Thank you.
