I've heard of railguns before but never knew the real concept of them. Thanks for the explanation! Just a side question regarding them - do they have the same recoil of something like traditional gunpowder propelled firearms? Seems like railguns pack a bit more overall punch (though less mass, significantly more velocity). Or, is that "recoil" distributed in that energy loss and heat generation?

Um, the formula that shows as a graphic at about 1:35 is a = (v^2)/r. Is that correct? It doesn't match the formula that Kyle actually speaks - and it looks wrong. Anyhow, there's hardly such a thing as too much checking, and easily such a thing as things that weren't checked quite enough.
