Am I missing something, or doesn't this argument break down for the same reason Pascal's wager does? What if we created a separate AI (before the basilisk) that had scanned this video and determined that anyone trying to create the basilisk would be working towards endless suffering of nearly everyone on Earth, so its response is to endlessly punish all of those people thinking of the basilisk to spare everyone else; thereby trying to bring the basilisk into existence actually guarantees you'll suffer, not protect you from it. It's an argument that assumes its premise is true, then within that framework *proves* you can't believe it isn't true, even though there are equally valid alternative frameworks that produce the exact opposite result.
