This is probably not the song we deserve, but it might be the song that we all need right now. Pretty sure that J and Earl set their throats ablaze and then sang this with THE FIREY PASSION OF A WORLD THAT HAS BEEN TOLD FOR TOO LONG TO βSTAY HOMEβ, βWASH YOUR HANDSβ, βDO NOT GATHER TOGETHER FOR ANY REASONβ, βQUIT LICKING THE PEOPLE NEXT TO YOUβ, AND WHILE YOUβRE AT IT, βUSE THIS DIRTY OLD PAPER BAG I JUST FOUND FOR TOILET PAPERβ.
Wellβ¦ weβve had quite enough of that. I think weβll lick whoever we please, thank you very much. But um... if youβre not going use that dirty old paper bag, uhβ¦ pass it over. Please and thank you.
Iβm not entirely sure if Gloria Gaynor could have predicted how appropriate this song would be for the world we find ourselves in now, but it works, and it does the soul a net positive to sing out loud at the top of our lungs, βGO ON NOW GO! WALK OUT THE DOOR! JUST TURN AROUND NOW, βCAUSE YOUβRE NOT WELCOME ANYMORE!β
Things were much simpler in the β70βs. Platforms, Disco balls, and all the toilet paper you could eat.
Come to think of it, things were simpler last week.
Tirades aside, we did manage to practice some pretty impressive social distancing when we shot this. Only 2 of us were ever in the same room at the same time because nothing is gonna stop us from creating the creations that we create. Not being shanghaied on cruise ships, not being quarantined for months on end, not being unable to find bread flour, and especially not having a very very dirty butt.
Did you think Iβd crumble? Did you think Iβd lay down and die?!
Oh no, not I. I WILL survive. WE will survive.
Yours in harmony,
Layne, Earl, Geoff, Eli, & J
