Bitwig Studio 6 is finally here, and after diving into the beta, I'm genuinely impressed by the updates.
The highlights for me are the new automation system, which now lets you treat automation with the same flexibility as audio and note clips, plus a slew of workflow enhancements like alias clips, improved editing tools, and a global key signature system that ties into various devices.
The interface feels snappier and more polished, the new dark mode is the default, and many small changes add up to make everyday music creation smoother and more creative.
There's a lot to explore, and even after reading the massive changelog, I feel like I’m still discovering new things each time I use it.
Bitwig Studio 6 is released, beta available for users with an active license or upgrade plan.
Major redesign in automation editing, now more powerful and flexible.
New automation clips: can use, loop, and merge automation portions just like audio or note clips.
Aliases for clips: modify one, and all others update; useful for working with older projects.
Enhanced automation tools: spread, randomization, stepped automation, spray paint tool.
Automation is now “first-class” alongside audio and note clips, available in the arranger and clip launcher.
Cross-integration between automation and modulators: drag curves between automation and modulator devices.
Global key signature: project-wide scale and root note with visual guides in the piano roll.
Devices integrate with the global key/scale for smarter transposition and pitch randomization.
Refreshed user interface: dark-only background, customizable grid, improved editor visuals.
Expanded note expressions: velocity, pressure, timbre, gain, and pan now editable per note directly in the piano roll.
New editing tools: step sequencer for fast idea creation, audition tool to preview sections instantly.
Workflow enhancements: overlay multiple tracks in the editor, improved handling of audio, note, and automation clips.
Many minor updates affecting overall usability and “snappiness” of the DAW.
