Update + Reference sketches #2!

Hello all! ^-^

Sorry for the long silence, I wanted to have some answers ready before posting, but I’ll try to make up with an unusually long post.

In short: my time has been spent between development, design and study.

In detail:

1. WSD development is moving forward. It has mostly been about polishing the game for release, such as making the title’s artwork or reworking the way the engine displays the game in full-screen and 4k resolutions: it should now display much smoother instead of simply scaling the pixels up.

But before moving on there will be a very special kind of scene. I’ll save some hints for the next post but just know that it will work like some kind of ‘secret level’, so it will be your job to uncover the mystery! It will also be pretty odd o_o and will require quite some work on my part so I don’t expect it to be ready for this month.

2. I’ve been over-using my neurons more than ever recently to try and figure out what the next game should be. I think I have the answer and I am positive it just has to turn out good after so much thinking!

I’ll make a post about it when I’ll have a clearer picture but here’s the breakthrough: we’re going 3D! (most likely, fully or partially)

Here are the main reasons for this choice:

A. Features - It allows for truly any kind of gameplay and unique features to be implemented as well as building robust systems. I think that’s my strong point and the one that distinguishes our games from others.

B. Customization (clothes, hair, body features…) - Using 2D characters it’s not really feasible to have much customization because each piece of clothing would have to be redrawn in each in-game scene or for each animation sprite and I don’t think that’s worth the effort.

C. Camera - Camera can be rotated and zoomed in and out freely. Each of my lovely patrons have different tastes when it comes to art styles but I feel there’s a preference towards big animations with interesting camera angles; 3D allows for that together with ambient interaction (without having to make a detached scene).

D. Time - Once characters and environment are created content should be faster to make.

I'll take it as an experiment (as big part of WSD was) to broaden my horizons and not die with regrets, while still keeping core pervy aspects we all love!

So I plan on making a smaller game also since I’ll have to deal with a new game engine and the whole 3D thing.

3. Speaking of that, I’ve been spending a few days learning Blender. Luckily 3D modelling is not as scary as it sounds before dipping your toes into it, as all things in life.

I’ve also blueprinted the girl’s model and I’m super-happy with how she came along. All that’s left is to actually sculpt her up into a living being. :>

That’s it for now.

Thank you kindly for your support and see you next.
