Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates lately. Thanks for sticking around!
Basically what's happened is that despite my continuing will to work on The Weekend, I've hit the point where the stupid Twine editor is too much of a hassle to overcome with the limited time and energy I have to actually sit down and write. The game is also way too complex and has too many plot-holes for me to do much with it in its current state.
You're probably expecting my next sentence to be something like "so it's going on indefinite hiatus," right? Nope! Instead I'm going to rework it, keeping basically the same plot while fixing, tightening, sexy-ing, and making the story a lot more coherent. Essentially, we can think of the current iteration as the first draft.
This time, though, I'm actually planning things out before I start actually writing or coding. I've been graphing out all the paths and I'm about halfway through Saturday. I'm already feeling a lot better about this version!
It's not readable or anything, but I attached an image version of Friday v2, just as proof that I'm actually serious ;)
I won't be using the Twine editor this time either. Instead I'll be using text files and Tweego to avoid the slowdown problems I've run into with the first draft. I'd also like to post the game in Github, to allow easier collaboration (if that's something I decide I want to do). If you guys have an requests or suggestions for what you'd like to see going forward let me know. Plot, code, art, anything, now's the time!
Finally, I don't know how many of you are paying attention or even know you're still subscribed, but I want you guys to know that I think about my games and writing every day. I don't like to post unless I have something to tell you, but that doesn't mean I'm not still invested. I chose a payment on release model for this Patreon because I didn't want to take anyone's money (even just a dollar) without producing things in return, and I also wanted to be able to work at my own pace without the obligation to churn out more and more content that I'm not passionate about. That's what the day job is for, right?
So thanks for sticking around, even if it's unintentional! Since the first release of The Weekend I've been consistently amazed by the kindness and unrequited support from everyone. Much love <3
