The general consensus was that his hair fell out in a moment of sheer fright, and the house was soon condemned to put an end to whatever dark spirit haunted its hallways.
Psychical researchers investigating his case suggested an alternative hypothesis, however: Tony's own latent psychic ability, common in troubled teens, was magnified by his environment and heightened emotional state, causing a telekinetic phenomenon. This "poltergeist" was no ghost but the unfiltered psychic activity of Tony's own subconscious desires.
The truth may remain forever a mystery, but Tony's pompadour was never seen again, and his fate became the topic of countless late-night campfire stories, terrifying the young men of his town lest the same should happen to them.
