Introducing the OPR Rangers Program

Update: The original intention of our OPR Rangers Program announcement post was to keep things light, and slowly reveal more about the program as time goes on. After some feedback from the community, it has become clear that this was not the right approach, and we want to more clearly explain what our intentions are with this program, and the direction it will go in the future. To correct this, we have updated and expanded our article below, and we're sorry for any confusion this has caused.

***

We understand the importance of an active, vibrant community when playing tabletop games, and that is why we are happy to introduce the OPR Rangers Program, our Organized Events Program for the One Page Rules community. With this new program we hope to make it easier than ever to organize local events, find other players, and most importantly, play your favorite One Page Rules games.

First Steps and Goals

We're starting small with the program.

We know that there are many groups playing OPR Games around the world, but until now we have no organized way to know where they are, what events are happening, or who you should contact if you want to get involved with OPR communities in your area. So the initial launch of the program is designed to help make it easier for community organizers to be seen and connect with players around them as well as advertise their upcoming events.

To do that we're taking our first steps:

OPR Rangers

The core part of the OPR Rangers Program is of course the Rangers themselves. OPR Rangers are enthusiastic, positive, vital community organizers who help spread the love of their favorite One Page Rules games, organize regular local events, and grow their local OPR communities. These volunteers will be the ambassadors to their local gaming communities and will have our support to make it easier for interested players to get involved.

Why Become an OPR Ranger?

Every tabletop game needs a community to play.

By becoming an OPR Ranger, you can help grow and support your own local One Page Rules community and ensure that everyone gets a chance to play the games they love and have fun. You’ll be able to advertise your events to the wider One Page Rules community, as well as have access to resources to make your events engaging and successful. Everything that is provided you'll be able to print and give away to your community.

Here is what you can currently get as an OPR ranger:

Here are some of the things we want to offer in the future:

What if I am Already Organizing a Local OPR Community?

If you're already organizing a local OPR Community, that is fantastic.

Thank you for all you've done to help grow the OPR Community and help people enjoy playing the games we make. We encourage you to still apply to be an OPR Ranger and tell us about this community in your application! This may help others find your community and keep it growing and healthy, as well as make it easier for us to keep in contact and give you the support we can. Even if you choose to not join the OPR Rangers program, we still encourage you to submit your community events so that they can be listed in the monthly event posts.

To Become an OPR Ranger, You Must:

We've prepared a guide on being an OPR Ranger and some advice on what sort of events to run and how to organize them:

If you would like to join the OPR Rangers Program and help foster and grow your local OPR Community, please submit your application to become an OPR Ranger today.

Community Events

The other vital part of an Organized Events Program are the events themselves. That’s why we are asking everyone to let us know about any public OPR community events that they are organizing so that we can publish a monthly list of events on our website. This will make it easier to find opportunities to play your favorite One Page Rules games as well as connect with fellow players in your community!

Here are some examples of some events you could run:

We do ask that you only submit events that are open to the public. We are unable to advertise private events.

The Future of the OPR Rangers Program

This is only the beginning of the OPR Rangers Program and we have big plans and ambitions on how it can grow. We appreciate all of our local OPR communities and organizers, and we hope that with this new program we can help support them even better and help them grow.

Here are some features we hope to add to the program in the future as it grows:

Happy Wargaming!

If we sign up, do we need to start immediately? I have space to host events, but would need time to prepare it (it's currently winter here and snowing, so clearing space for these events would be difficult until spring time)

Suicidekings

Probably by the end of the month.

When are we supposed to hear back from you regarding our application?

Ron Mananquil

Nosso grupo é de Vitória/Vila Velha no Espírito Santo.

Alexsandro Fuzari

Where are you from in Brazil buddy? I'm thinking about signing up as well.

Lucas Bittencourt

Nailed it. If I'm going to invest my time, effort, and (undoubtedly) money to this endeavor, I need to know a bit more as to what the potential payback is for me. I already have a large, tight-knit gaming group and play a lot of OPR games currently; why would someone want to be a pro bono cheerleader for OPR?

Andrew Roy

Thank you for the feedback, we do know that it can be a bit of a commitment. Keep in mind even organized casual play nights and hobby get togethers count towards this, it doesn't have to be a large event.

I suspect this will change by Late January. Demo work isn't easy and a reward program is a must for a professional demo group

The models we release for free can be used in Paint and Take events, such as the free model section on MMF or the models in our free Quick Start Sets on the website.

I'm part of a small group of 4 players who started playing OPR a few months ago. We are from a sparsely populated city in Brazil. We are always presenting OPR games whenever possible to expand our group. We would like to participate in the OPR Rangers program, however, as others have said, the requirement for 1 event per month makes it very difficult for us to be included in the program. I follow the request already mentioned by other supporters of 4 to 6 events per year. This would greatly help the growth of the program, as more players (and thus more groups) could truly participate as OPR Rangers

Alexsandro Fuzari

Yes, nothing fancy but something that could by helpful 👍

Marcin Drewek

I think its just that you'll get your event posted on their website or something like that. But I do wish they'll be sending some prizes over for those who can do these events each month as an incentive. Nothing too much, something like a printed expanded rulebook or whatnot

Ron Mananquil

Super excited to see this develop! As others have said though, requiring one event each month is going to burn people out and it will hurt more than it helps. I urge you to revise the event minimum to 4-6 events a year. Please consider this change as I fear the ranger program will die quickly if the current requirements are kept.

Daxon Maranto

Dumb question, the paint and take violates the license agreement, can we have an altered license to be in full compliance? I would love to run something along those lines, but where do you guys want us to draw the lines? Can we print a 500 pt army for each person if we know four (completely new) people are showing up?

Spencer Johnson

The Rangers program is a great idea but I can tell you from years of being a demo person burn out of being required to run one event every month is a BIG ask. Dropping to 6 events a year is more doable exercise. You will end up with "false" and "fake" events just meet the monthly quota, along with events with incredibly small numbers each month. I love the excitement from this idea, though. I've been a part of demo / volunteer programs for a long time and have even been responsible for managing them. Happy to help with advice or ideas but it's tough to keep one going without doing it right.

Robert A. Nolan

Perfect timing! My local gaming group is asking everyone is they want to run events next year. The only issue I can see is one event a month is going to be a lot.

Josh Burns

On reflection - the priority here seems to be sharing the locations / events so people can find them easier! And that’s awesome all by itself!! That’s a cracking place to start with this!

The Bonehead Podcast

I was thinking of something similar! Maybe access to the old time-limited battleplans (so we can participate in ones that happened before we joined, or missed a download that month!)

Tom Gilder

Very cool!! A few Initial thoughts 1: Once a month is quite a lot for volunteers; 4-6 times a year would open it up a bit more! (I.e. we could work it in around other games) 2: Potentially consider something for content creators (YT battle reports etc) - they’re great for engagement / showing off a game 3: “Resources” for being a part of the program; I don’t mean money etc, but demo packs to use, special sculpts for Rangers, something to boost the “pride” and “belonging”!

The Bonehead Podcast

I'm into it but what exactly does i get in terms of "help"? 🤔

Marcin Drewek

How do you get FLGS's involved? There doesn't seem to be a potential for sales at the local level. Would this be done at local libraries or other venues?

Scot Frei

I dont understand. So a OPRanger invests time and ressources to organize an OPR-related event. Do they get anything in return for that for free advertisement? *head scratch*

Heiner D

I love this. Should be a great help in growing the OPR community

Finnbar Connell

Cant wait to Ask a spot a my local library .lets see how it goes !

Weolyn

About time. Good program

Brandon Pulsipher

I'm looking forward to seeing this program mature.
