Still not allowed to draw, but what I can do is make character sheets for my OCs! So I used the above template to do just that~

I realize this is the first time I've actually shared any details of the world Frey and my other OCs inhabit, so here's a small primer!
A lot of these terms and names are subject to change, haha.
Mélange
A huge city in what was formerly known as Northern America, survivors from all walks of life made their home here after the Collide. The city itself is cobbled together from the ruins of what was before.
The Collide
A huge, cataclysmic event that occurred as a direct consequence of humanity's ever-growing greed. A certain megacorporation's dangerous research into alternative sources of energy sought to draw power from a different plane known as the Spirit Realm, but they went too far, shattering the boundaries between planes of existence and causing these realities to merge as one.
The Spirit Realm
A plane of nature and, to us, supernatural beings. It somewhat mirrors our world and should be seen as a different "layer" rather than a completely separate world. Because of its proximity, rifts between our world and the Spirit Realm have occurred before naturally throughout history. Many beings from folklore and mythology were actually based on real sightings that happened because of these rifts.
The world, pre-Collide
Before the Collide happened, the world was very much like the modern day world we inhabit ourselves.
The world, post-Collide
As a result of the merging of our plane and the Spirit Realm, nature went haywire, causing destruction on a massive scale in less than a day. Skyscrapers were torn apart as enormous trees sprouted up and grew right through them; parts of the bottom of the sea rose up, creating new land, while existing lands crumbled, allowing the seas to grow in other areas; whole towns ended up overgrown with moss in an instant; climates changed; mountains rose up; ravines split the lands apart. Humanity fought back, of course, almost erupting in an all-out nuclear war. This was however thwarted by the sheer force with which nature struck back, containing most of these weapons before they could really do any harm.
Nature reclaimed the earth from the humans destroying it, and in doing so, wrought destruction itself. The Collide was an apocalyptic event, and reset the world to a simpler time, with much of humanity living separately in their own newfound cities, with no real global communication.
While the Collide was a merging of our world and the Spirit Realm, it didn't fully do so. If you look at 'our' earth as a straight line, then the Spirit Realm is like a squiggly line drawn over it. It intersects in many places, fully merging, but certain parts of the lines have quite a bit of space between them. These areas are technically separate from our world, but have been connected through rifts, and function as a kind of pocket dimension. The intelligent creatures from the Spirit Realm made their homes here after the Collide, afraid of interacting with humans. Others, like the Oni, confidently strolled into this new merged world, warring and taking whole kingdoms for themselves. The world also became much more dangerous, with many vicious non-intelligent creatures, dubbed 'monsters' by the remaining human populace, hunting and invading at their leisure.
Chaos & Stability (0-40 poCo)
Due to the reset of the world, the Collide was established as a new year 0. Everything before was now referred to as preCo (pre-Collide) and everything after as poCo (post-Collide). Until around the year 30 (poCo), the world was in complete chaos. Former, crumbled nations tried to cobble themselves together; rich people tried to hang on to their now useless wealth while everyone else looted what there was to loot with no regards to any currency; factions started forming; wars were fought; nobody knew how to deal with this new world and all the problems that came with it. It was only in the 30s that things started to quiet down and stabilize, at least around the area were our story takes place. The humans around these parts started setting up treaties and alliances with the intelligent races from the Spirit Realm, now dubbed spirits. They started to live alongside each other, and worked together to build a city where they all might survive and thrive through cooperation. This lead to the founding of Mélange in the year 34.
The first Spiritborn (40-74 poCo)
Following the collaboration of humans and spirits, more odd things started happening. Demi-humans, later named spiritborn, came into existence. These were humans that somehow adapted traits from spirits. Some of these were very easy to explain due to the possibility of new romantic and sexual partnerships, but others took a while to figure out what happened. Researchers documented these changes, and around the year 73, a concrete understanding was formed, now categorizing 3 types of spiritborn.
The first type is indeed the most obvious. The more humanoid spirits started forming relationships with humans. Their children would either be human, spirit, or sometimes ended up with traits from both parents. An example of this are the Half-Oni, which are now one of the biggest population groups.
The second type also comes naturally. The children of spiritborn inherit one of their parents' features. Even if both parents are spiritborn, they will only inherit one parent's spirit traits, it's unclear why this is the case. Children inheriting traits from two different spiritborn aren't unheard of, but they are extremely rare, with only four cases ever being documented.
The third type are also sometimes called the Blessed. This type confounded researchers the most. These spiritborn came from human parents, but were somehow born with spirit traits. This turned out to be a result of a "blessing" given by the more... ambiguous spirits. These spirits didn't directly communicate with humans, and often couldn't. But if the humans gained their favor and goodwill, they would bestow their traits upon their progeny. An example of this is Frey's great-grandmother, Manuela.
The Moon Rabbit
Manuela's parents found a severely wounded Moon Rabbit one day, took it in and nursed it back to health. After a few weeks the Moon Rabbit could go back on its merry way, but it often returned to their cottage, sometimes with family. Manuela's parents built a little home for the rabbits right outside their house. There was a big tree there with a hollow space right underneath. They filled this space with leaves, and built little house-like structures on the side of the tree. In front, they put up a pedestal where they could leave food for them.
As a thanks for this kindness, the Moon Rabbits blessed their daughter, becoming one of the first Moon Rabbit Spiritborn (colloquially referred to as Rabbitfolk). The area itself also became known as a blessed place that brought good fortune, and many came to bring gifts for the Moon Rabbit in the hopes to increase their own luck, turning it into a shrine of sorts.
When my characters actually show up! (183 poCo onwards)
Frey was born in the year 157. Her mother, Gabriela, is the great-granddaughter of the two who originally built the Moon Rabbit shrine, making Frey the latest direct descendant to inherit the Moon Rabbit blessing. She doesn't know who her father is, a secret her mother has not seen fit to reveal. Though this secrecy has caused several arguments, it has never influenced the close bond mother and daughter share. Gabriela taught Frey almost everything- From shrine caretaker duties, to how to defend herself. Frey has a big family with many aunts, uncles and cousins, and shrine caretaker and guardian duties are split between them.
In the year 183, Frey is 26, and takes care of the shrine on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays for a part of the day. At other times, she works as a server and deliveryperson for a fusion diner in the neighborhood.
At this point in time, Mélange is flourishing. It is one of the biggest cities on the continent, and has become a hub of many different people, spirits and cultures, while simultaneously being in balance with nature. Much of the ruins it was built on have been restored, with actual infrastructure being reintroduced, and many clean energy sources like windmills and hydro-power plants providing electricity to the city, a resource that was only known as this thing from the past just a generation ago. People have jobs, go to school, run their own businesses. Survival is no longer something they have to worry about, Mélange offers a place where everyone can just live their life.
The world at large has also mostly stabilized. While not many large nations exist anymore, many people live in either self-sufficient villages or large cities, each with their own unique governing structure. That said, there are also those out there seeking to unite these locations in a new nation, some with good intent, and some who once again cling to the greed that caused the Collide in the first place. Megacorporations from the old world seek to restore their former glory, even if what originally brought them that glory is no longer relevant. They are more cult-like organisations obsessed with what their ancestors built, their only driving motivations being power and greed. Seeking to "unite" the cities under their banner and control them, and demolishing those who refuse their offer.
This is where my OCs come into play, and their stories take place.
Whew, super long post! Different than usual, hope some of you enjoyed the stuff that I usually keep locked inside my mind, haha. I hope to one day be able to run a D&D campaign or something in this somewhat post-apocalyptic setting. I'm also excited to introduce you to the myriad of characters I've dreamed up one day!
