Dear Patrons: Better Stuff On Substack!

goldenwitch.substack.com

I've been trying to figure out where I want to take this patreon or if I want to focus somewhere else as the central money-making pillar of my career, and the answer has finally come to me in the form of a superior competitive website.

Patreon has long frustrated me with it's lack of evolution and reputation for excessive regulation in certain cases. We use Subscribe star for Khantehnt, which is sort of like patreon stripped to it's essentials, and I use Onlyfans for YGG Studio as a group, because it allows direct video upload in exchange for taking a larger cut of the earnings, and both of those are good in their own ways; but for me as an independent creator, Substack has proven imminently more intuitive in how it is formatted and encourages engagement as opposed to patreon.

The patreon model of promising "extra" for higher and higher amounts is, in my opinion, old, and being rapidly outgrown as viewers come to clearly understand what the need and purpose of funding independent creators is. Substack's approach is just simply to offer a subscription feed you pay for monthly or discounted yearly, and the creator chooses either each post to be locked or not locked. The format of the site emphasizes it's nature as a blog/rss feed, making it way easier to release whatever I'm doin straight through the feed and then simply lock the private posts, as opposed to, say, separately having a youtube career and a patreon that hosts bonus content. It's not that it isn't technically possible to run a patreon similarly, but Substack is just that much better-built and straightforward, and the ability to buy in for a year at a discount is extremely helpful.

Tonight I will be returning home from a trip to see my parents for the first time since transitioning in LA, and then Ari and soon Ari and I will do a X weeks review podcast which will be posted both here and on Substack, where I already have a handful of exclusive text posts. I recommend transferring your sign-up over there, though I will keep the patreon open until a significant number of people have switched. Thank you for your continued time and patience!

Can i leave patreon completely and not worry about missing out on anything?

I'll switch when the X Weeks Review comes out before committing to leaving patreon.

Gotcha, thanks!

Substack simplifies everything down to just subscriber-exclusive and non sub-exclusive, so there is just one fixed price. I will be making posts of different kinds in line with the blogs that are public on the platform, beyond just the podcast that is currently offered on patreon.

Why is it not tiers? It’s only available for $7 a month to get a subscription. When we have been paying for $5 to get the podcast and support you. It seems weird to increase the cost. Can you introduce tiers on substack?
