The Estadio Nacional Disaster
Added 2024-01-30 11:15:01 +0000 UTCI wasn’t able to find footage of the disputed goal that I could get permission to use in the video… but it appears that it was captured on camera. Here’s some footage that I was able to find elsewhere on YouTube. At around the 00:50 mark there’s a slow-motion shot of the goal being scored.
I am by no means an expert on football… although I’ve read a fair bit about what constitutes a “high boot” foul in preparation for this video. Even so, it’s hard to say for sure if it was indeed worth declaring a foul or not.
Perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge about the sport could see what they think. There does appear to be some contact between the scorer and another player… and the scorer does make a somewhat high kick... but as to whether that would normally be a foul, I’m clueless!

2024-02-06 17:11:37 +0000 UTCI can’t understand how a relatively harmless game could inspire so much trouble. But then again, I’m in the USA, where football/soccer is a game for kids. Never heard of this before. The parallels to the Hillsborough disaster are uncanny. Good job.
