The White Lund Explosion

In this video I touch on the toxic jaundice suffered by munitions workers during the First World War. One effect of it was to turn their skin yellow, leading to them being given the nickname of “canary girls”.

It’s a story that’s quite reminiscent of The Radium Girls in America… a workplace health disaster that also happened during wartime. Just like in that story, although some danger was suspected at the time, little changed during the years of the war.

White Lund is remembered for the explosion that ultimately destroyed the factory. But TNT poisoning actually killed almost as many people at White Lund (seven women and two men in total) as the explosion did!

Fascinating Horror

You're right - I have gone down to every alternate Friday for shorts. I love making them, but I wanted a bit more time to focus on other projects, so am going to be doing them on alternate weeks going forward. Definitely don't want to give them up altogether, though, as they're a lot of fun to research and make!

Also, am I going crazy, or have you gone down to just two shorts per month these past few months? I totally understand if you did, I just happen to have been noticing the occasional extra Short-less Friday lately.

I'd like to see a video on the 2005 Iranian Air Force C-130 crash. Or maybe a video on the 1981 Iranian Air Force C-130 crash. Those two incidents could either each have their own videos, or be combined into one video. Though, skimming through the Wikipedia pages, I think there's enough to do them separately. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Iranian_Air_Force_C-130_crash https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_Iranian_Air_Force_C-130_crash
