Thinking about making a game demo?
Added 2023-04-19 18:51:39 +0000 UTCHEY SO...
I'm thinking about making a game. I literally have no idea how to do this but... I want to make a story game with fighting that's similar to Hades maybe? Just a one level demo game where maybe you fight a character as Hexia and Wolf and potentially make something bigger later? Any amateur game devs and or professional game devs have any advice? What's the best software to use? I'll try making some concept art at sum point to get my idea across. I know this is really a barebones description hahaha it's definitely not something I'd churn out quickly or completely by myself.
I went to Uni and often worked along game students so I feel like I have a small knowledge of the game pipeline.

If you're doing it yourself and you have no actual experience writing code, I would recommend Gamemaker. It has drag/drop options for writing the code and is easier for beginners to pick up. If you have to do 3D and/or you have someone with actual programming skills on hand, I'd recommend Unity.

I’m studying software development so if you need some help, wether it be with development or even just questions or advice, I’d be more than happy to lend a hand!

2023-04-20 00:08:02 +0000 UTCAs others have said: Unity is your best bet when it comes to the engine. Check Brackeys on YouTube for some amazing tutorials. They literally have a "Make a game from start to finish step by step" kind of series.

2023-04-19 21:59:38 +0000 UTCGo with Unity. Unreal has some amazing tools in development that will be good for future games once you have experience, but for starting out go with Unity.

2023-04-19 18:58:29 +0000 UTCHey there! Game Design grad here. I would probably start with Unity and see what you can come up with. Unity gives you a lot to work with and though it may look complicated (it is I just have experience with it😅) it allows you to build anything you want as long as you know how to use C#. Unity is a very versatile engine.
2023-04-19 18:57:36 +0000 UTCA lot of 3d games are made with unity, alternatively you could use rpgmaker if graphics aren't that important to you or renpy if you want to make it more visual novely
2023-04-19 18:55:55 +0000 UTCProbably go with Unity since it’s free and there plenty of tutorials about it. You could also find someone who’s in game design and ask if they’ll help you.
