Garden diaries

Hello friends!

I don't know if I've ever mentioned it, but May is my absolute favourite month of the year. I love spring with its light green leaves and blossoms everywhere, and I'm happiest in mild, sunny weather! So I'm having the time of my life right now.

Last year, I got myself a little garden, but shortly before the start of winter, so I actually couldn't spend any time there. However, now is the time; 2024 is my year of gardening! Ever since I came back from Japan, I've been working tirelessly pulling weeds, planting berries, and cleaning up the cabin and tool shed. (This week, I'm going to paint the exterior, which I'm way too excited about). I'm going to turn this place into the Ghibli garden of my dreams, and no-one can stop me. :D

Honestly though, it feels like I finally found the missing puzzle piece in my life, the thing that brings it full circle and makes me incredibly happy. Looking at my artwork, it's probably not hard to tell that I love plants and nature, and yet, I've struggled to have more of those things in my life. Going for walks is fine, but when you live in the city, you're still constantly reminded of all the noise and unrest around you. But this is different: I get to create the space, see it grow and evolve, and for hours on end, I get completely lost in it, without feeling the need to even listen to music or a podcast. I'm just looking forward to seeing how my little garden will transform in the coming years! And I can't wait to harvest my own cherries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries, and currants.

Here are a few more photos:

my desk inside the cabin, perfect for sketching and gazing out the window

a big cherry tree with two bird houses

It took me 3 days to clear and mulch this path. There were so many weeds with deep roots.

 Peonies are blooming right now.

my mini herb garden: chili, mint, and still waiting for coriander and chives

Some of the junk I threw out. The light gets so pretty in the evening that even that stuff looks nice.

That sounds lovely, I hope you'll feel right at home there. :)

Wooow, this is so beautiful! I can basically feel the happiness through your writing which makes me smile so big! I'm so happy that you found and built this for you, that you feel this way. I think that it's so important to work on things like this, to make your life filled with more life and to fill it with more you.

Adriana

Djamila, you aren't the only one seeking a more simple life for personal time and having more fun with nature. Nature is definitely a healing presence. In October 2025, I will be moving into a far smaller "town-like" city up north from where I currently live. I love the welcome small town attitude where I will be moving to.
