Getting back into creature design as I'm working on materials for the coffee table book. I want to have a sort of compendium of illustrations for the various flora and fauna within the Pit, and I've been holding off until I had the right tools to do so. Now I finally feel comfortable tackling this phase of illustration, and look forward to posting updates as I develop them.
Starting with the Abyssal Copepod as it's both a somewhat complicated design to fully work out, and it has become something of a mascot for the series among the fans. Something I wasn't really happy with in previous iterations was how the Abyssal Copepod tended to look more "worm" like and less like a bug. So, I've made some anatomical decisions and have flattened the body substantially, borrowing cues from both pincer bugs as well as various crustaceans. I also wanted to emphasize how these creatures, like almost all fauna within the pit, are completely blind and rely on their (relatively) large antenna to poke and prod around.
Anyway, still working on getting the enamel pins right. Aiming to have the next round shipped to patrons and up on the shop by mid-to-late June.
