Chapter 6: Little Sister Pt.2

Watching the Water Shuriken cut through the tree, Magnus was pretty proud of all the progress he had made during these past few months.

He has tried to make the Water Bullets, but he had always come short no matter what he tried. He could never achieve the right velocity that he wanted so he set that aside for now.

What he did accomplish was make this super duper awesome technique; Water Shuriken. As an internet troll, he always had such fine taste, and growing up Naruto was his jam along with the other animes coming from Japan! So who could blame him for stealing some ideas from the show with badass magic ninjas.

He applied the spin effect he was trying to achieve with the Water bullets on the Water Blades and this was what he got. Ahh, he just couldn’t wait until he created a Giant Water Shuriken. Now that would be the height of pure awesomeness and true might.

Also the technique was destructive as hell, just looking at the tree and the short work it made of it showed more than anything how deadly it could be to a person. Actually it was too fatal that he was furrowing his eyebrows in confusion. The last time he tested it, it wasn’t as devastating as that, but he chucked it up to luck or whatever, and tossed it out of his mind for now.

The only thing he had to work on was his speed, it took a while and a whole lot of concentration to create it, and no one would give him that on the battlefield or when facing across an opponent.

Other than that, he was happy with what he did so far. And the others… well let’s just say they were too gobsmacked to even give a proper response!

Silence reigned as no one said a word at all until Magnus decided to clear his throat and break the silence.

“Now about healing my little sister,” Magnus said to the mostly gobsmacked crowd.

A beautiful chuckle sounded out from the white koi fish while the black fish just snorted and shook his head. For two giant fish, they were surprisingly human-like!

“Of course we will,” this time it was white koi fish that answered.

“However,” the black koi fish added in a grim tone. “Unless you can find another way to remove this taint in your blood. This will be the last time we shall be able to heal any of your descendants from this curse. As much as we hope to unburden you of your heavy load, each of us can only bond to one person during their lifetime!”

“Wait! Bond you say?” Magnus' grandfather was the one to speak up before he could.

“Yes. We are both spiritually connected to each other. It was the only way to save your grandson. My life force could only do so much!”

“I know it,” Magnus whispered to himself. Though he didn’t know what to make of it. From the show it was clear this was both a blessing and a curse. Their fates were intertwined just as he imagined! On the one hand who knows he might become some all powerful Ocean God, and on the other he might just be a sacrificial lamb.

“Now you wish to do the same with my daughter?” his mother finally spoke up.

“Yes,” the white koi fish simply answered.

“Then do it,” the woman said, coming to kneel before the pool and holding out the little red faced baby.

Reaching out with a whisker it rested on the young baby’s forehead, and Magnus got to experience in real time the same change that happened to him long ago transpired upon his sister now.

Slowly from the root of her head, the young newborn’s hair started turning white. The transformation was more apparent for her since to begin with he was born with dark hair, but for her it was like an unearthly transformation taking place, that had nearly everyone gasping.

Magnus watched as a strange white light glow prevailed from within her body, and he knew it was the Moon Spirit’s life force slowly seeping in. Then as soon as it all happened it was over, and the Moon Spirit withdrew its whisker from his little sister’s forehead.

Suddenly for the first time, a cry escaped from the baby’s mouth, and what a screamer she was. Magnus knew right off the bat, she was going to be more trouble than anybody could handle.

His parents on the other hand were blind to that as their relief and joy was palpable. Everyone was busy fussing over the baby whose screams were barely quieting down or for that matter stopping anytime soon.

Magnus turned to face the ancient spirits and mouthed, “Thank You!”

He felt more than anything the smile on the Moon Spirit's fish face, “It's no problem!”

Then he and the Ocean Spirit met eyes and silence fell over both of them. Clearing his throat awkwardly, Magnus asked, “Do you mind if I come over and visit from time to time?”

If the giant fish could have shrugged its shoulders it would have as it answered indifferently, “Sure why not!”

This time a peal of laughter left the Moon Spirits lips, “You have no idea how long he had been waiting for your visit, young one!”

A grumble sounded out from the Ocean Spirit who said nothing to rectify his fellow spirit. Magnus couldn’t hold himself back as he chuckled, and then decided to tease the big old softy a bit. “Don’t worry, I will make sure to come visit when you are lonely.”

Immediately once he said it, Magnus knew it sounded wrong, but it didn’t stop the Moon spirit from laughing some more and the Ocean spirit muttering a few choice words under his breath.

“Call my Tui, young one,” the Ocean spirit said. “And this grumpy one is Tui!”

“Well, I’m Magnus, but I guess you already know,” Magnus said, happy to see that they were on first name bases.

All this fit perfectly into his plans. He wanted to get close to these ancient spirits. Not only did they prove a fount of knowledge, but they also were uber powerful. He recalled pretty well the episode where the Ocean spirit lost its shit with the death of its mate, and tanked the whole Fire Nation armada.

Yeah, they weren’t to be messed with, but also he felt like they were pretty fragil. Their mundane shells could barely take any damage which he guessed explained why this place was so heavily guarded and no one was allowed in.

He wondered if that was the reason why they chose him and his sister as vessels. But why now, he wondered! If they existed since time immemorial, why would they suddenly choose to bond with two little humans.

Obviously he couldn’t make heads or tails of it, but he would try to find out. If anything he was sure as hell persistent. Never give up was his type of motivation.

Suddenly, Magnus was pulled out of his thoughts as the Wise One spoke up. She had been so silent this whole time, observing everything going on, he totally forgot she had been there. So when she did speak up in her usual creaky voice, he nearly jumped out of his skin.

Till now, Magnus didn’t know what to make of these old crones. They never appeared on the show, but he should have known better since they were basically what the Fire Sages amounted to in the Fire Nation.

They were responsible for identifying the Avatar's incarnation when he or she was born in the Water Nation and guiding him or her along their path. They also held a lot of sway from what he could understand. Not only did they act as advisors for the Royal Family, they also had a bunch of duties from conducting coronations, weddings, and funerals. Plus most importantly of all they were spiritual leaders as they commune with spirits from beyond the veil.

Basically they had their fingers in a lot of places.

It was to his surprise then, when the old woman said, “My Chief. We would be honored to guide your son along his water bending path.”

Magnus raised a single eyebrow in confusion, he was pretty sure their order only took in young girls. What the hell would they do with a man like him?

His father voiced his exact same thought, “Why would you want my son for your order?”

“Of course it's because of his potential,” the old crone said. “We might never know if the Avatar will return, so we must make our own plans. Your son is touched by the great Ocean spirit, and he might actually be our greatest hope in fighting against the Fire Nation!”

Oh yeah, how could he have forgotten. The master of balance was still gone, and people were starting to lose hope very quickly with the Fire Nation steam rolling everyone.

“No,” his father shook his head, “my son won’t become some weapon you use to banish your enemies!”

“What other choice do we have?” the old crone asked. “The Avatar cycle is most likely broken, and we can only hope someone touched by a spirit as ancient as the Avatar Spirit could make do”

Narrowing his eyes, Magnus was held fast by the revelation of the old Wise One. Who would have guessed? They clearly knew about the avatar more than he did himself.

“No,” This time instead of his father answering it was his grandpa who did. “The council would be the ones that would like to oversee my grandson’s training. Which I agree with.”

“Which you are a part of,” the old woman nodded her head.

“Yes,” the old man answered honestly. “But…” he added, “I wouldn’t mind if your order oversaw the training of my granddaughter.”

Magnus had the feeling this was more than the old man just tossing their order a bone. So far, the old man has proven himself to be a very sly old fox!

“We will be honored then,” the Wise One bowed her head.

“Of course, and give my greetings to your leader,” he smiled.

“Now for you!” His grandfather said, turning to face him. “I must say you are quite the little surprise,” he smiled, looking too pleased with himself. “From here on out, I will take your training in hand, and your tutelage which I am sure your parents did even get started on.”

“Father,” his dad tried to begin, but the old man just held up a hand.

“I have already received the reports on how you let the boy run free throughout the palace which is a total waste of the young boy’s genius and talents!”

“Well that’s the thing,” his father said, smiling with pride. “The boy already taught himself how to read and write. And he spends most of his time in the library with the Head Archivist telling me he is well in advance of his years with him reading about philosophy, poetry, chi, math, science, history, and the such all by himself!”

“Really,” his grandfather said, though Magnus wasn’t listening anymore.

He was a bit surprised they knew how well ahead he was, and he guessed he should have known better with the Head Archivist always keeping an eye on him thanks to all his troublemaking, and him finding out about his reading material.

Nevertheless what interested him more was his grandfather's proclamation which had him way too excited. By training, the old man could only mean one thing, Water Bending! Magnus might have came up with his own techniques through instinct and imagination, but he knew there was a depth to Water Bending he didn’t even touch upon.

That is why he needed a Master, and who better than this legendary figure held in such high regards that went toe to toe with the Fire Lord. The actual Fire Lord! If that didn’t spell op grandfather then he didn’t what did.

Then everyone seemed to turn their attention back on him as they were done with their conversation.

“What do you say, boy?” the old man asked.

“It would be my honor, grandfather,” Magnus politely bowed his head, trying to rein in his excitement.

“What will the child be called?” the Moon Spirit asked, interrupting them. She sounded very much interested from her tone.

Everyone shared a look, his parents had been going back and forth with dozens of names, but one hadn’t stuck for them yet. Before they could start their arguing, Magnus coughed into his hand and drew everyone's attention.

“What about Yue?” he asked.

“Yue?” his father repeated while his grandfather stroked his beard clearly thinking over his suggestion.

But before they could give an answer, his mother cut in. “Yue,” she said as if tasting the words in her mouth while looking lovingly down at the baby. “That sounds like a wonderful name,” she smiled.

And that was that!

Yue Kuruk of the Water Tribe was born today!
