2024, beyond and before

Hello and a very happy new year to each and every one of you!

...And why not begin the new year with some unaesthetic sincerity!? I really do hate writing these things! I have no idea who I’m talking to and that bothers me. I often wonder how they do it, those folks who make a living out of talking to no-one and everyone via a camera. I gave up with video updates some time back, just shooting out an occasional one to make sure people knew I was still here. I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since I did that, but even writing these updates gets the better of me.

And so, if you are still here in spite of my communication being worse than your ex’s, thank you! It’s a very special kind of support, the kind that doesn’t require me to reserve a part of myself for ‘supporters only’, or to make a public figure out of myself, dividing my work into tiny achievements and sharing them constantly - I tried to do this for a time, and boy is it soul-sucking. I know I’d probably have many times the support I do if I spent on self-promotion even a fraction of the time I spend on creation, but I prefer to be free of that, and it’s atypical supporters like you who allow me that freedom. So again, I want to thank you sincerely for your continued support, for not needing me to be on a constant and celebrated growth spurt, for allowing me peaceful and quiet periods, like the one I’ve taken over the last months.

During the second half of 2023, once I had Intro to Music fully released, I set about to finally finding some space to address the work-life balance I’d promised myself years ago and which my health kept demanding. A little ‘soul-searching’, if you will. Ok, the moment I really relaxed I gave myself the mammoth task of creating an LT documentary (or as it seems, two or three documentaries), but still, I’m happy to say that I’m slowly but surely finding that balance, the boundaries I’m comfortable with, and my sense of self beyond LT, which I had all but lost. Insisting on being a whole person, emerging from the tunnel of ‘the Language Transfer guy’ and the endless obligations on his mind, has meant the world. I've been able to take stock of all I've done, and feel truly great about moving forward with the Thinking Method Platform model (www.languagetransfer.org/platform) which I'm hoping will launch by Spring, and which I'm certain is both what the project and I need. I expect the Platform to be so successful that people will stop asking if Mihalis will personally make more courses (although I do plan to).

So on a personal level, 2023 has been hugely eventful in getting life back more on my own terms and finding a sustainable relationship with the Language Transfer project that I’m not fantasising about escaping. This is great news, albeit again, not so aesthetic as far as good news goes! I've found the happy medium, and can settle in for the long haul, 2024 and beyond. I'm now working at my own pace, and am grateful daily that there are so many of you letting me do that.

Last but not least, if you are due a sharer/goody pack or InterLinear book, please shoot me a private message to claim your perks!

Hi Michelle! The Intro courses are not unfinished projects as I only even planned to make the Intro. There is an unfinished course, Complete German, which I decided it would be best to have a native speaker complete through the Platform, but that's a technical difference - either way all those languages would be continued through The Platform!

Hey are the already published projects getting finished like a complete guide to let's say Italian not just the intro. Before the Table Project gets started?

Michelle Kister

That's like my way to take a break 😵 well I hope you have had some recovery time and wishing you the balance to continue evolving and sharing. I just finished episode 50 of German und mein Deutsch is ganz viele besser 🙏🏽☀️

Hey Mihalis, sorry you’re forced to write this kind of influencer b.s to get the support your work should receive on its own merit. I’ve just discovered your work, and you’re likely the most talented teacher I’ve ever listened to. Thank you for this masterpiece.

Thank you Sandy for your generous words! I'm also super happy your husband found LT for you too! hehe Give him a kiss from me :D Best of luck with Italian, I hope that new confidence will help you speak more and also enjoy exposing yourself to Italian you don't understand, and have fun deciphering it, or bits of it! Best of luck, enjoy and thanks again!

Hello. I am on my second 8week course of Italian by a native Italian. I was struggling to remember it all. Then my husband found Language Transfer. I'm on Lesson 8 and feel more confident in just two days. Amazing to me that you don't actually speak the language!! I also just watched a video interview with you. Great to see someone actually living what they profess! Bravo and grazie mille for free access to your lessons!

And thanks to you Brian for joining the campaign! :) All the best with Turkish and hopefully we'll find someone soon to continue that course through the Platform!

Thanks for your work. My wife and I just completed the intro to Turkish. Even though we are already past this level in our learning, it was very helpful to us both. I only wish I had found this 2 years ago! Çok teşekkür ederim, kolay gelsin.

What a lovely message! Thank you Josh! :) It is a pleasure to read your enthusiasm, and to imagine you excited about reuniting with your childhood piano!! All the best and thanks for being here! And PS, if you're curious about the method and how it works, you can check out this free publication www.languagetransfer.org/guidebook All the best and thanks again! Mihalis

It was a no brainer for me to become a donator of such a meaningful project. I just finished the “Into to French” course after ten months of (what you could call a study method perhaps) comprehensible input and I was blown away by how much more French I understand now. I don’t know if I’d call the Language Transfer method “comprehensible Input” (maybe it is!) but it sure works wonders. I am now finding interest in the piano again after 10 years of not playing after watching the first 10 episodes of your Music Theory course. I want to travel back home and steal my childhood piano from my parents house! Haha I can’t thank you enough!

So glad to hear you are getting things in balance! Thank you so much for your work. I am enjoying the Spanish course and getting so much out of it. Looking forward to your platform project.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment Sarah, and for risking annoying your friends to get them over to LT! From what I hear, it's how 70/80% of this happens! haha I'm sure the platform will also help formalise all the informal 'chit chats' I have with teachers wanting to apply some of this to children's education, and spur them on to create and share Thinking Method style material for kids! I hadn't really thought about that, but yes, the Platform will be great for helping interested folk develop that side of things too! :)

Thank you for all your work. The Greek and German courses have been invaluable to me and I will continue to enjoy bothering my friends with arguments as to why they should give up duolingo for the thinking method. I am interested to see where this new release takes you and I hope to see some people using the resources you provide as teaching materials for younger children; young people spend so much of their time learning that I think they especially would appreciate their teaching organized in such an intuitive way.
