I know one old dude who never married or had kids and has lost his brother and parents and only has a sister-in-law who is on her last legs and a niece and nephew he never sees. I feel for him.

2024-08-30 14:26:44 +0000 UTCThe story of her later life is to me a very sad one indeed; the circumstances of her death were the subject of a 17 January 2023 article in Asahi Shimbun which highlighted the increasing number of solitary deaths and the number of decedents without families who'll assume responsibility for final arrangements. Great change, unwelcome as it is, is coming to Japanese society owing to the aging population, low birth rate, and changing social norms.
