2024-08-11 01:49:34 +0000 UTCHelmet..? Always good as an emergency bucket if needed. A good helmet has many uses. Slippers..? A nice comfort item. A touch of home, and civility in a desperate situation. That's my guess. Those can make someone feel human again, when displaced, and sheltering. Those white cloth gloves, though... I've never seen the value in those. Give me a pair of tough leather work gloves, and I feel invincible. But I won't criticize, because I have completely lost the art of packing lightly. In my army days, I once dropped to the forest floor and slept under a plasticized map. That was the lightest I ever traveled. Now... I pack like Zsa Zsa Gabor. I want my kit. I'll stuff it into whatever sized bag I need, but if I need something, I want to have it on hand. I'm done with "improvising" and "going without." My best wishes for health and safety to anyone having to use their go-bags.
