Helmet..? Always good as an emergency bucket if needed. A good helmet has many uses.
Slippers..? A nice comfort item. A touch of home, and civility in a desperate situation. That's my guess. Those can make someone feel human again, when displaced, and sheltering.
Those white cloth gloves, though... I've never seen the value in those. Give me a pair of tough leather work gloves, and I feel invincible.
But I won't criticize, because I have completely lost the art of packing lightly. In my army days, I once dropped to the forest floor and slept under a plasticized map. That was the lightest I ever traveled. Now... I pack like Zsa Zsa Gabor. I want my kit. I'll stuff it into whatever sized bag I need, but if I need something, I want to have it on hand. I'm done with "improvising" and "going without."
My best wishes for health and safety to anyone having to use their go-bags.

They put some weird stuff in there sometimes, Brian. The white cloth gloves and the slippers... even the helmet seems a bit pointless once we are away from the buildings...

Good show. One thing I've learned about my Japanese friends: They've all got "go-bags" that are prepped, and ready. No fooling around. When it's time, it's time.
I hope that thing sits around and collects dust for many years, Ed.

I've got you pinned on my Google Earth map, along with some friends in Yokohama, and Sagamihara. Keeping watch via apps for the latest news.
Fingers crossed. I know you're a man who likes to be prepared. All the best.

The alarms from my phone are terrifying. We had a shake in Tokyo last night that had me sprinting to the pile of pillows in my safe spot! Checked my ready bag and supplies just in case too . . . keep safe there!
