Australian police have automatic cameras that can detect drivers holding phones. Penalties are around $1,000. That is pretty effective in reducing the number of fools on phones.

2024-03-09 02:18:16 +0000 UTCIt's really quite incongruous, this phone usage within a society so rigidly based upon rules, conformity, and "stares of disapproval". Meanwhile, in my province of Quebec -so French, and "laissez-faire" and "joie de vivre" and all that tripe- Provincial Police have been known to conduct sting operations from trucks, and coach busses -anything that can give them elevation over cars- so that they can see down into the drivers seat to nab anyone on a phone. They're really quite serious about it, here. I don't see driver phone usage anywhere close to the number of times you do. That's very tragic, and unfortunate out your way.
