2024-02-14 00:01:06 +0000 UTCWhile the situation is terrible, these little cardboard rooms are intriguing. They look to be able to afford inhabitants at least a modicum of privacy and dignity in a terrible circumstance. It seems that emergency services are (unfortunately) quite prepared and practiced at deploying them. I was in the army when we had a very rare circumstance up here in 1998 -an ice storm, to be specific- where people were evacuated from their homes and had to sleep on cots in an open hall. It was all very helter-skelter, and we were called out to do the best we could. This arrangement is leaps and bounds beyond what we could manage. Going to see if I can find out more about this as an emergency measure. Edit: Well, now. Here we are.
