More Silly Behavior in Japan

Yes, passengers can see when we need to focus, cant they, Brian. I only do those talking in the car videos when I am on low stress and low risk roads, for that reason. The driving while looking at the phone thing PISSES ME OFF, that is why I make videos about it so much. Not just risking their stupid lives, but ours too.

I've realized a few things about this over the years: I was a race official at a sporting event a few years back. I had to drive around and stay in communication with a radio strapped to my harness. Having to drive with one hand and push-to-talk with the other, even with my eyes fully on the road, while exiting a parking lot I scraped the bottom of the car on the curbstone because I didn't assess the angle properly and drove off part of the sidewalk (causing me to say an unkind word over the air). It's damned distracting! I realized at that point that as sharp as I thought I was, part of my brain was elsewhere. I know now that I simply cannot handle that kind of distraction. Talking with a passenger in the car? Not a problem as you can pause your conversation at any time while there's something you need to pay attention to. And hopefully, if your passenger is also a driver, they can assess a tricky driving situation and allow you a pause to do the necessary calculation to navigate the event. But we're so conditioned to respond to someone on a phone or radio call, that we are hesitant to say, "Hold on a sec" with them on the other end. And thumbing through your smart phone while driving..!?? FORGET IT! I can't. No way. So, if any of these people are like me... then while playing on their phones they'd be a complete menace on the road; accidents waiting to happen.
